Haurchefant gave a damn about the warrior of light. That's why they mourn his death. The scions seem to treat the warrior of light like an emotionless soldier that has a common cause while Haurchefant went above and beyond to make sure the WOL's needs were met and had strings pulled to make sure they could get asylum in Ishgard.

Haurchefant is a mixed case for me. I didn't think much of him in ARR and his cameo in the New Year's event creeped me out. When I found out what he was like in Japanese I was relieved that the English localization team toned him down to be honest.
I appreciated him a lot more in Heavenward. He proved himself as a true friend to the WoL in their hour of need. I don't know if I'd call all his stories milking-I'd say it's more like how we keep getting more stuff for Edda. SE knows that he has a large following in the fanbase and is catering to that.

As for the Scions, I see it brought up a lot that they don't care about the WoL as a person. Playing through ARR again on an alt I didn't really see that, except maybe from Alphinaud. Their relationships are professional but they always ask your character to go on these dangerous missions and thank them for risking themselves for Eorzea. They celebrate the WoL's victories and safe return both. They do fight alongside you on occasion and have their own parts to play in missions, though the structure of the story doesn't let them get much done on screen. Minfilia confides in the WoL about her worries for the future and thanks them for being a pillar of strength.
I think my favourite part of ARR is when you return to the Waking Sands after Praetorium and get a "hero's welcome" from the major npcs. Perhaps the WoL isn't best friends with the Scions but I never felt like they didn't care or only saw them as a tool.

Well, being professional/just business is probably a better way to describe it as you have put it. It just never goes beyond that, which makes it feel like you're only on beck and call whenever they need help. Heck, most NPCs in general don't really treat the WOL any differently, at least from what I seen.

Which is what the 30-50 DRK quests touch up on, with the WOL's inner self getting sick of being treated as a thankless hero.

I can understand that it must be quite annoying to have so many scenes with him if you don't like him. At the same time he will be gone from the story from now on so you wont have to care about his character anymore. Really it would have been perfect (for me at least) if he was badly wounded on that day, we get some small scenes with him recovering and after HW ended he would have been another side character that might get some mention or not but would have stayed out of the story (maybe having a lasting wound or something along the way). But yeah since that will never happen now I am at one side happy about all those scenes, but at the other hand I am feeling like they truly just killed him of to have something tragic. (Since he has a lot of fans they would be able to make it quite tragic for a lot of players..and thus having some easy written emotional scenes in the game..okay..maybe I am really just salty...)

At least Ysayle did not only save us from a certain death which we ourselves could not have stopped but she also stopped the Garlean from going to Eorzea sooner...so she changed the course of the story...maybe thats why I can accept her death?

Dear SE..can I go into Alexander, turn back time and save him?? (One can still dream right?)

About scions:
I am with MilesSaintboroguh on this. We care and mourn him because he was one of the only true friends of the WoL. He saved our life not because we were Eorzea's hope but because he liked/loved us as a person. He was also always trying to cheer us up and took us in when nobody else gave us shelter. The scions might like us in some way too, but more as a fighter against the darkness and less like a true friend (imo). I mean everyone will feel different about them, but I was feeling more along the way of being a stranger that they needed, to fight against any primal threat and not truly as part of their inner team. They know each other for years and here I am, feeling like a fifth wheel. Alphinaud and Tataru are feeling more like friends now and are also one of my remaining liked characters in the game. (Which means that they might die somewhere along the way...)

They may thank you and are happy that we are unhurt, but do they truly care about our own happiness and our state of mind? Minfilia should know that we already have a lot of weight on our shoulders since a loss could mean the end of the world and yet she still leans on us even more and tells us her worries..how about asking us how we feel? Can we lean on them if we need it? They already sent us to dangerous primals, where one mistake could be our end and yet they give us more missions which they could have done on their own too. Really thats why it would be nice if the WoL ends up being badly wounded once..so that they might realize that we are only humans too..
