It will probably run better on the console because they MADE it to run perfectly on it. Think about FFXI with PS2 and 360, the game ran absolutely smooth. Granted they had to cut the graphics way back on PS2 and the 360 had crashing issues with large areas with a lot of action (like besiege), but other than that it was definitely optimized for the consoles.

It's a lot easier for them to make it run buttery smooth on everyone's fixed piece of hardware than to make it run the same on everyone's very different PCs. With the plethora of GPUs and drivers and CPUs and hard drive speeds, it's close to impossible for them to test it on every piece of hardware for PCs; so one person might have a better experience with X hardware than Y hardware, though the specs might be identical.

Lol your joking right? Any modern PC game on max. settings will crap all over a PS3 or Xbox360 game, Also a ps3 will NOT play FFXIV better than a PC... Why? because a PC can have a better Processor, Graphics card & RAM & it can be upgraded whereas a PS3 cant.

And if you love the controlls so much just connect your PS3 controll to your PC and play with it....

Also if you perfered to play XI on a PS2 over a PC with a controll you must be blind or something, the PS2 version looks TERRIBLE

Doesn't matter how up to date your PC is we all know this games engine is rubbish and performance could still be better. For all we know it could run better on PS3. It is the engine that built FF 13. The age of PS3 doesn't mean a thing I still think PS3's top exclusive games look better than most PC games. It's a powerful console certainly good enough for FF XIV.

If you are saying that using a controller for comfort makes PS3 better than PC overall period, and that's your only reason that's just silly... I can and do use a controller on my PC to play the game, which is what you can use on a PS3 so no comparison when it comes to Controls and Comfort since controller = both.

Personally I thought FFXI looked awful on PS2 compared to PC, I started on PS2 and when I changed to PC to play it was like night and day. Also FFXIV on PC is 1080p vs. PS3's 720p that it will come out with. In that aspect PC is already better than the PS3 version graphic wise... also consider that the PS3's graphic card is basically a specially modified Nvidia 7800 that was high end back in 2005-2006.

Also I feel it does matter how up to date your computer is, and also what you have inside your computer. PC users can update everything and constantly evolved their desktop if they wish too, where PS3 users and basically stuck with the hardware and can only update was Sony can give them though their software updates. Someone playing on a lower quality computer will not have the same look as someone playing on a higher spec computer. The only change a PS3 player can do is what type of TV they choose to play on which could make it look better depending on how the player hooks it up.

Also communication is a big thing in a MMO... at the moment I don't know if they will have some way for PS3 players to download vent/team speak/mumble onto PS3 but I doubt it. That gives PS3 players a disadvantage, and PS3 players might have to have two systems running: Game on PS3 and Voice Chat on nearby PC or laptop... and then you have push to talk. PC players can either put it on that keyboard or bind it to a button on the controller.. PS3 payers will have to bind it to a button on the computer and have the computer in a good spot where they can reach over and press it while playing FFXIV on PS3.

I'm not hating on PS3, I love the system and it is defiantly my favorite gaming system, but you can't really compare a gaming system and a PC. In my opinion not only will PC gaming be better than PS3 in regards to FFXIV, but more convenient too.

PC will ALWAYS run it better. No matter how you play it.

Compared to my laptop, PS3'll be a major improvement. I'd rather pay $50 for a new game rather than $1000 - $3000 for a new top of the line pc. The good think about PS3 is that you can use a USB keyboard, so it'll play just the same as PC.

Except you don't need to spend $1000-3000 on a new PC. You can build a PC that could run FFXIV on high settings for about ~500-800USD, depending on whether or not ambient occlusion is your thing. So with that money, instead of buying a console and a TV, you could buy a brand new PC that could run pretty much everything.

The PS3 version of FFXIV will never look as good as the PC version. I cannot even imagine how they plan to render all of Thanalan/Mor Dhona/Coerthas on a simple PS3.

Uh, the main reason XIV won't "compare to the speed of other MMOs" is because they have a serverside interface. Even FFXI is a lot more "faster" than XIV is.

    @Graphics debate:

Still yet to be a "gorgeous" game that actually had the gameplay, let alone replayability in comparison to how good it looked.

The Maps will be redesigned by then.

I'm not doubting the ps3's graphics capabilities on this game. Ok, not as outstanding at the modern pc (im on a laptop and can still punch out most graphics options to the max), but I feel confident it will be able to hold its ground on this aspect.

Control/interface wise, not an issue. already there are many players who have the "sony styled" controllers. Hell, there are options to customise your controllers in the settings (guess if i use a controller or not haha).

My main concern is this, communication. From what i understand, the ps3 has a tiny little keypad from which you are meant to type with. Kinda like a mobile phones keypad, stuck on a controller. Ok, I imagine there is a way to get a big keyboard, but why would anyone pay out another £20 or so for one game?

My main concern is that the communication within the game would consist more on gestures and "quick, translation key words" rather than actually constructing what you want to say.

I dread the day we end up with "(party)(Behest)(Scull rock)"

Ok, you COULD say that voice is the answer, but i shall give my reasons as to why it is not.

    1) Translation! it's tough enough translating in text, voice would be almost impossible. Dont get me wrong, I love multinational servers. Voice would remove this multinationalism from the game, which would be a shame

    2) lag!! Lets face it, this game is known for its lagging at times. Why bring in something that impliments further lag? A silly idea, at best.

However, I still welcome the ps3 players. I hope they join us soon and we have many great adventures
