Only 1536 apartments per server?

The only solid numbers we know of are 3 and 512. Whether or not that number is multiplied by the number of wards or sub-wards is unconfirmed.

I can see it either way, though I am skeptic as the devs have implied aiming for the lowest common denominator and moving upwards.

I would say that the number 1536 is not just from Mr Happy. I was present in the finalfantasyxiv twitch stream for the live letter and someone there was live translating who wasn't Mr Happy. Whether or not the translated comments about this number during twitch chat are true would require a japanese speaker to re-confirm by watching the stream if it can re-viewed.

We have more than numbers, though. Consider the facts we already have (see my first reply for examples, others have posted similar things too) and I'd say it's almost guaranteed that we'll get an abundance of apartments, not 3 x 512 per server.

SE should have clarified it by now, but there's so little cause for panic, seeing so much of it is just painful.

I'm not going to white knight and say the housing situation is golden when it's clearly not, but you have to understand that this is a result of choosing to play on a giant server.

Y'all wanna stop it with this crap? Not everyone chose their server because it was giant. Legacy members had little choice, some people joined friends, some people didn't think playing a more active server would be that big of an issue.

What do people suggest we do now; pack up our entire network of friends and move to a smaller server because housing? Nah, the system is bad and I'm not gonna be told it's my fault because of my choice in server.

I really do hope that 36k number is more accurate than the 1.5k one.

Well sadly they did not post any official numbers in the liveletter thread so we have no glue what will happen. But at the same time we have Mr.Happy that got his translations from someone else that stated that we will only have 3x512.
I am not sure why they couldn't just say that we have one building per ward? They should know by now that this is a hot topic so why not be precise about it from the beginning? But after all that happened with housing I am just skeptical about it...I mean if they provide so many apartments (over 30k) why not make them instanced from the beginning?

Would I be happy if its over 30k? Yes. But at the same time I am skeptical and fear that its the smaller number :/.

No, this is the result of SE choosing to half-ass a housing system and apparently having zero clue on how to manage server infrastructure. Don't blame the players for a problem that is ENTIRELY on Square Enix's shoulders.

2.0 might be using a new game engine but besides that the rest of the game most likely still using 1.0 infrastructure.

All I'm saying is that there's more to take into consideration than JUST the limited information SE and Mr Happy's translations have given us. It's not that hard to deduce what is IMO by far the most likely outcome if you pause and think about it more.

I had the same knee-jerk "WTF, only 1536 apartments per server?!" reaction when I first started talking with friends about it, but then looked into it more and considered all of the information we actually have; my expectations changed drastically after that. I have a feeling a lot of people in this thread are reacting like I initially did without thinking about it further.

Okay, so I did a bit of sleuthing and it looks like the picture of the lav bed apartments


corresponds with area at the end of the bridge you can see to the north from the corner of plot 1 in the lavender beds. Similar rock formation, same 5 scrawny trees on the left clifftop, same big tree on the right clifftop. This has me convinced we're getting 1 apartment building per ward/subdivision.

Actually, no, you are at fault.

You choose to play on the highest population server there is. You KNOW the housing situation is like this. Yes, SE doesn't handle housing well, and I'm not defending that, but you KNOW this. And yet, this is what you choose. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the mass exodus to Bal and Greg isn't healthy, but people still feed it instead of fixing it.

There are servers that STILL have housing. And they would love to have active people who raid come play on them. Everyone's got problems. Deal with it.
