You don't have to be a masochist to like punishment for failing.
There being a penalty for failing just means the value of success is that much higher.
There's little, less or no value in succeeding with no consequences if otherwise.
I have fun just playing game, overcoming challenges doesn't enhance my enjoyment.
Pandemonium Warden. Absolute Virtue was an endless fight till they nerfed him for a little while and the level cap increased after a time being. Having access to Tier V spells, and enough power to 1 shot just about anything unless your Tank was Aegis Relic user.
He had access to all 2 hours from each job up to Chains of Promathia (The best Xpac), able to activate any of them every 1 minute. Disabling required activating players 2 hours soon upon AV activated his to lock it. The server was only in Japan so it was impossible anywhere else.
Edit: What made him endless? Having access to Benediction, completely restoring all his health to 100k HP.

Well to be honest the person they quoted was just as equally condescending and devoid of any interest in opening a dialogue.

There doesn't need to be any dialogue. It's pretty much the perfect retort to what I was replying to and why that guy's attitude is terrible.
edit: Also that's not what condescending means.
Condescending is when you explain what things mean to a person in a way that assumes they don't know what it means when they should.
Kind of like how that last sentence would be, if you hadn't just proved you didn't understand what condescending means.
