To me a Hi isn't asking for a conversation. It's just being polite and acknowledging the other people in your party.
I find it rude when others don't respond to greetings honestly.

It's not just a greeting through. Your going to consider it rude of them to stop acknowledging anything you say after the greeting is over with. We could begin with hi, and than if you go into a follow up question such as "How're you guys doing today", "Are you running this for relic", "Anyone here new?", or some other thing. You're going to consider it rude of me to just not response at all. Your going to feel like I'm ignoring you. We "those who don't want to talk" just can't win when others expect or rather, demand that we speak for the sake that if we don't, we're either elitists, or being rude.

The simplest thing for me to do if I don't want a conversation is to just not return the greeting at all. Cause to be honest, I find silence to be less rude than saying, "Hello, I don't feel like talking today so I'm not going to use the chat box for this instance." But that might just be me.

This isn't really an excuse...
I also have no intention of making friends but I still say "Hi" and "thank you" at the very least. You know, basic common decency. Type in "hi" as you load in, and "thanks/bye" after the boss is dead. No time lost. If I have the time to type in "hi" in the 0.5 seconds loading in that my SSD affords me, you can too.

But see here becomes the problem now. "This isn't really an excuse...". "If I have the time to type in hi in the 0.5 second loading in that my SSD affords me, you can too"; as of this point your demanding that I speak. That really makes you no better than me for not talking at all. If someone doesn't want to talk, are you really going to make them? Because on the contrary. That now makes you just as rude as those who wish not to talk. It goes both ways here.

People like me who don't want to engage in small talk conversation just can't win when everyone wants to attack our silence.

There isn't much difference between saying hi/bye and nothing at all. It might be slightly polite but that is about it. Personally I would not consider explaining mechanics much better. There isn't much room for being socially inside of the cross server runs due to all the grinding and actually it might even waste your time that you could spend being social with people on your own server where it actually makes sense to make friends.

My suggestion is to bring friends to the parties, you are more likely to have non silent groups that way... tho then I wonder if the other party members aren't suffering too much. It's kinda hilarious when you get in right in the middle of explaining that there was a random naked girl in your kitchen few minutes ago ^^

It's the not acknowledging the other people in the group at all that I take issue with.
Where I live its common to greet others as you pass them on the sidewalk, an interaction that lasts less than a second.
The idea of not acknowledging the people you'll be working with for a few minutes especially after they've acknowledged you is rude to me.

I don't know; personally even on days I'd rather not ever see another person for hours I still give a greeting... if someone wants to take that further then I just don't respond (like...in real life...) A pushover? Sure I guess I am but I'd rather be slightly uncomfortable than be seen as rude, to be honest. If it gets too much for me all I have to do is...not talk to you. UNLIKE real life, we aren't speaking face to face, and even though ideally we should act like we are, sometimes it's just too much.

I guess we have to agree to disagree then. To me acknowledging someone you're playing with isn't different from acknowledging someone in real life.

Tbh, I'd just like to acknowledge that me and my random party members aren't just mindless bots that are in for the grind (even though that's why we are doing roulettes).
Also, we will disagree on this, but I consider complete silence to be ruder than a simple "Sorry, I'm not up for a conversation". I'm not one to start a conversation in a dungeon, but I wouldn't find such a statement to be rude. This stuff is mostly sorted out during the first few seconds after loading anyway, so I don't consider it a big waste of time.

I don't follow up after the hi tho. That's where I think the difference lies. All I normally say is "hi" OR unless I'm on a new class I never played then it's " New to this class/learning" And that's pretty much it. But I did say it's just me in my other reply. In the runs I had where noone said anything it was always a bad run, so yes I'm jaded in that and I like to know I'm playing with actual people instead of bots or wannabe elitist. And I know those are limited thoughts but it's the first thing that comes to my mind.. I'm just jaded.
