Tell that to the hundreds of so-called furries who don't walk around in giant fur suits but just with tails and cat ears. Or anime's like Spice and Wolf with the "furry girl". And I'm pretty sure the term "furry" was used in the subcultural sense as in those who like to pose or show interest in anthropomorphic characters or share attributes to animals as humans. Cat-People count. :/
