Well OP, it's interesting the way you think.

I neither cared too much about basic stats, nor gear with extra effects.
(Dont get me wrong, they are nice, but im just as ok w/o them.)

You asked 4 questions, and all of them ask the same thing. "What does it adjust?"
Which I further took as "What does it change?"

    I dont think that way, instead I find stats interesting, under the conditions;
    1) How do they improve my gameplay?
    2) How do they improve my rotations?
    3) How do they improve my capability?
    4) How do they improve/fit my character identity?

If it doesnt do these things, the stat isnt interesting.

If it does, then it's interesting.

if it doesnt improve, but merely "changes" then its up for debate if its good/neutral/bad. (Which will be judged solely on the prior 4 things I said, which was kinda pointless)

If I may ask, how do you differentiate between "improving" and "changing" (especially if... for the better) in this case?

Would that mean that the previous sense of gameplay/rotation/capability/identity must still be a viable interpretation for your character, given the new stat composition? Would the gameplay have to offer not just a different option that better appeals to you, but more options in general (which most players will be likely to like and prefer at least one thereof over the original gameplay)?

An example of "changing" would be, Press 2, instead of 1 for the same effect.
An example of "improving" would be, +1 to attack power. (If attack power helps you perform your role in a group)

So an example of both, is "All attacks hit twice" equating +100% dmg. (If your role needs to do dmg)

An example of changing, but not improving would be "Auto attacks do x2 dmg, but you now auto attack at half the speed".

It's not exciting to me, unless the change equates an improvement to the performance of the role I'm assigned to excel at.

But just slapping on "changes", which also improve my performance, every month, from a new weapon/armor bonus, might go against "class identity". (Which may or may not be important, depending on a few factors)
Along with effecting if I enjoy the play style/mechanics of a class.

Lets say I really enjoy a Tank class, but each month, the new weapon effects change the play style I fell in love with.
Or the Tank class I dislike, finally becomes likable, because of a change in gear.... then comes the next update, and I no longer have that play style. Making the class a waste of my time to have maxed out.

I'd rather have this customization left to "Talent trees" like in most MMOs, rather than gear. (Or something like materia, where I can re apply it to my next gear)

For clarification, I care about "play style/mechanics" solely based on how it helps me function at the role.

I hate classes with too many DoTs, and any class that has a lot of DoTs, I do marginally worse at, than those that don't.
So gear that gives me DoT abilities to use, might raise my dmg when performed right, but will make me personally make more mistakes, trying to juggle that extra work.
An example of "performance" under a more grey situation.
