Were people complaining about the gun itself? I thought it was the GB's placement on the model.Guys.... I'm here with the answer to why this is all happening....
PS2 limitations!
I don't know why anyone is surprised that this is how this particular gun looks. Is this the gun that is the last straw? We all decided it I guess so it's true then right? I'm going to try that at the next crosswalk. I'm going to decide the light says "walk" when it doesn't and go for it. I will run out into the street and show everyone that I decide how things are.
I LOVE the gun to be honest ^_^. I am just complaining about the gauss barrel's position, because on shorter weapons - like the yo-kai one - there is too much space in between both objects. Most Machinist guns are longer, so the gauss barrel actually sits in front(yes yes, it's floating there too, and I don't mind at all! I'm just annoyed about there being too much room between gun and barrel).

Friend/recruitment code for special items and things (use before paying first sub) RACN78W5 (updated) info on items here http://sqex.to/Cz9 code is entered via the mogstation.

To be honest, as much as I defend the look of the Gauss Barrel, the NATURE of Guass Barrel was the reason I stopped playing MCH. I love the Aesthetic of MCH - but I hate the post-50 mechanics of MCH. Same for BRD. I know I'm far from the first to complain, but the addition of Gauss Barrel and Wanderer's Minuet ("Wanderer's"! Such irony.) was a huge blow to the fun factor of those jobs. Having multiple attachments might have helped to keep my interest - and as mentioned in the quote, why couldn't they have had other attachments with cool functions that have the same look and placement on any gun? That side-mounted ammo cartridge, for instance, looks like it could work with pretty much any gun model.
Oh, well. No sense worrying about what could have been.
That's my point. If their excuse for scrapping the idea of attachments was "it's too much to design to fit for each weapon", then I honestly don't see the logic to the alternative we have now; a single attachment that more-often-than-not does not fit on our weapons, while at the same time doesn't feel ilke a meaningful attachment (it ultimately feels like it's just there to be there). I'd honestly have less problems with gauss barrel (and attachments in general) if it felt like an extension/augmentation of our attacks, like well...an attachment to the gun. Instead of having multiple attachment choices that give identity to our gameplay, but still look a bit unwieldy because it doesn't attach perfectly, all we have is one attachment that doesn't attach properly and adds very little identity to our gameplay (due to wanderer's minuet being the exact same thing), for the reason of it being too much work on designing different attachments models for different weapons. It's really easy to have guns have a set max length then have the Gauss Barrel float past that length than to have stuff like barrels and scopes change around since those are part of the actual gun model and would have to take that into account... so the attachments would have to float too otherwise it would severely limit the designs they could use for guns since specific parts would always have to be in the same position. Or it would require a lot of extra work to make sure everything fits on each and every gun model.
Like I mentioned eariler, I wouldn't have mind the gauss barrel appearance if the reasoning we have only gauss barrel in the current form was because they felt it was too much work designing attachments for each gun model. Just like that image, what was stopping them from basically doing 3 different attachments? It doesn't have to fit perfectly and be the same model for all the guns (like what we have right now with GB) at least that feels like a justified corner being cut. You could've had a spread-nozzle that gives weaponskills and abilities an AoE while increasing TP costs and lowering damage, a cartridge that increases damage dealt but increases tp cost, and a scope that roots yourself in an aiming stance for increased damage (and disabling it would be similar to cleric stance), and all 3 can be used together to stack their effects to match the situation, if you needed AoE, burst damage, be able to stand still for extended periods of time, or all three together. To be honest, as much as I defend the look of the Gauss Barrel, the NATURE of Guass Barrel was the reason I stopped playing MCH. I still don't even get why Grenado Shot is what it is. Why wasn't it an oGCD Grenade that makes the next single-target attack against the target instead charge and detonate the grenade, or... anything that could push along the engineering theme of the MCH? Could have had charged ammo to deal magical damage, synergizing with (more than just Hypercharge from the) Bishop turret, or painted targets for Rook turret rockets, whatever. There's just, so, much, more that could have been done.

My current favorite gun designs are Revolver of the Wanderer (wild west theme) and the Yo'Kai gun (feels like phantasy star/star ocean style gun to me). The GB doesn't really bother me too much because I tend to keep it turned off/hidden. I do not really care much about how others view my character, rather how I have to spend so much time looking at my character so my view of it is more important than other peoples and as such hiding it in my options is okay with me even if other people can still see it.
