I hope that you find a game that offers what you long for.
I wish you the best.

Bye, Felicia! o/
You know I had the same mindset a couple years ago. We played as the so called elitist or at least that's what people on the forums love to call us, but then the game became stale quickly.
After 2 years of playing to that time, i took a 8 months break and played a couple of other games. During the time these new shiny games got updated quite a lot but even those started to become slow.
So then I re subbed to FFXIV, I still have to tell myself from time to time just to play the game very casual, since it's made for these players. I sometimes log in do dailies, and log right back out. Other days I find myself not playing at all, and then again another of these days I just create an alt and start playing that (same server, different server don't matter). It's less stressful lol.
Anyways, long story short, and yes I know it's such cliche to say, but maybe taking a break for half a year or longer might help, coming back after gives you at least something to do for 2 months and if you look at the update schedules you might find yourself back right before a new major patch/expansion.
However I do understand that some people and I myself included, think that paying $24 a month is just not worth it. If you're looking for more mid/hardcore content/games, this game is sadly to say not one of them. GL
I like to think I'm important in this declining population game too. I might start an i quit thread too
Normally I dont respond to this kind of thread because they're often filled with some "childish" whining or you get the feeling its just someone seeking attention. That being said I have the feeling that the OP is rather wondering why this game (suddenly?) isnt fun to them anymore and is probably seeking an answer - I still dont want to convince anyone to keep playing this game because I can understand all to well that it can get tiresome and annoying... Still, gonna throw my thoughts in here:
1) First you should ask yourself "What IS fun to me?" - that might be very well questing, leveling and learning a new class, glamour, getting the newest gear etc. etc. Do and play a game - any game! - in a way thats fun to you! You do have to know what that means to you first though - hoping that one day you'll just stumble over something can keep you entertained for the rest of your life is a bit... naive, I'd say. Dont wait for your luc... fun to find you, go and search it yourself!
2) From OPs post I'm gonna drwa that they're playing alone (or at least not within a network of some friends). A great deal of fun in this game comes from playing and sharing it with other people - at least, thats the case for me. The most boring farming content can be fun if you've got friends to do it with you!
3) Keeping us entertaind ALL the time cant be an easy task - specially not since there are people which are spending easly the better part of their (free)time in and with the game (*cough*totallynotguiltyofthatmyself*cough*). The devs simply couldnt even release enough content to keep us "busy" for that long if it werent for grinds. After all this isnt a single player game that you spend much less time with than you do with an MMO
...and this is where point 1) comes in again: Ask yourself what you want from a game (or anything in life, really), see if thats being provided for you and if its not ask yourself why - it might turn out that the reason lies within you: a "bad" approach, wrong expectations etc. (I mention this because OP mentioned they played through DD on release day and falling asleep while doing so - maybe that wasnt the best time to do this content then?)
I can only speaking for me probably but I can share my reasons to keep playing this game: I play it with friends. We do content together, on our pace - that means: we dont grind stuff out as soon as it is released. Sometimes we will look for a special, new challenge (doing EX-primals/Coils with only two or three people etc.). I think about what I want to achieve - I can spend hours farming for birds, I liked leveling classes and follow their questlines, I'm a mastercrafter and I like to help people by making gear for them or decorate the FC-house, I like gardening and take care of our airships - on some days I'll only log in for 20 minutes to get some daily stuff done and thats about it... And I really like the story!
Granted, I could do with some really "new" and fun content aswell - but as of today I have the feeling that its not only the devs fault that people are getting bored. Its also our fault in the way we play the game and what we expect from it (one example being how the content got less and less challenging and faceroll easy because people got mad when they couldnt clear something in the first attempt). I'm not saying that this game is the best one out there and flawless! But I often get the feeling that people only play towards their goal - new weapon etc. - and are turning everything into a huge grind - and burn out because they need to have that weapon NOW.
So my advice to make this game more fun would always be: Play it at your own pace, seek content you enjoy (at one point there must have been some, right? What was it? - Should it have been the story: Unsub between storypatches, come back a week before the new one, get some gear so you can do the new storydungeon/trial and leave again if you still cant enjoyment beside that) and dont play alone!

Another flounce thread? These are getting a bit tired...
"Hello, I'm auditioning for the role of Ser Aymeric de Borel, and I'll be singing Electric Chapel by Lady Gaga"

People have been making the posts since the launch of 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. It's not new and I've not noticed a major leap in these specific posts recently. That's why I'm saying make a Mega Thread because it's been consistent for 3 iterations of the game and can be compressed down to 1 thread.
