People should stop worrying about gear. When this is your only incentive to do content, you're doing it wrong.

Play this game, if you like the game mechanics/system, the lore, the aestetics (i.e you like to play this game).
Play savage if you want to do the hardest content within this game.

Don't worry about optimizing your gear, worry about optimizing your rotation/group play/awarness.

    Simple as that.

Don't feel bad about having displeasure in this game, it's in a highly awful state, since 3.3 I've only logged in every Tuesday for resets. Cleared the patch in about two hours and just like history repeating itself, there was nothing to do. Palace of the Dead came out recently and it's diadem 2.0, given you've only been here 4 months you likely haven't experienced it given it died within the same week it released.

If it's really bad for you, then I'd advise reducing your play time and try older games that might have gotten some DLC or pick something new up, honestly you're not missing anything here. I'm learning myself that it's better to let this game go and not grind my teeth hoping it'll be revived.

People should worry about whatever they want. Different people play for different reasons.
And I don't really feel like you have the right to tell people which reason to play is right and which is wrong. .)

I just said that "wanting gear" or "wanting reward" (for the sake of it; not for being able to take part in content at all) is the most stupid incentive to play a game or do a specific content. Especially if you dislike the game mechanics/system itself.

Imagine a player playing 200h+ Diablo3 farming for the BiS-weapon he always wanted (just for the sake of it), but he dislikes the 200h playing until he gets it. How should I call it? I call it stupid, do something you enjoy.

Imagine a player of any game (video game or not) saying: "I won't play this game (mode) anymore, if I don't get better rewards for doing it.".
    It's laughable.

"You want me to play Monopoly with you? What am I getting for it? Fun? Hahahaha, try again."

The reason why you play a game (mode) a lot should always be something you are not embarrassed of, if you have to explain it to a relative or a friend. And I think "I only do it for gear upgrade" is a bit embarrasing.

So your last statement about people not wanting to play a game type if it doesn't give you good rewards being laughable, is pure ignorance. Rewards are meant to equal something special and fulfilling, if FF14 had a tournament between all the SMN players and you won that tournament, and the game rewarded you with a potion, not even a high quality potion, chances are you'd never take anything in this game serious ever again, not that this game has anything to take serious to start with given how sad it's turning out to be.

And why would you care if they got that drop if that PvP match was an enjoyable experience?

Or was the only reason you were doing it just for the gear drop? If so... why were you playing when you knew that was a very possible result?

Well, yes I never played it nor cared a lot. Maybe I should buy it, play it until I'm bored (which may be fast) and then complain in the forums until they change the game, while still playing it hour after hour, although I don't really want to.

I guess that's what you do today as a gamer.

It's a community for one, which MMO based games are heavily built on, and given the nature of forums, they have plenty of uses, one being complaints or feedback that the dev team looks into, why do you think WoW has lasted this long? Not because players faced burn out within 4 months of playing, but because they took the feedback and gathered data and crafted a game that has longevity.

Why would I care? Well that's a good question, but it's also a pretty self explanatory question, it's like telling a salesrep "Hey all those sales you did that drove the company toward profit, was great, good job being the top, but we're going to reward sales person D a brand new car and a paid vacation for putting in the watercooler, they didn't do anything at all, but we're going to reward them regardless, see ya next week!"

As far as why being there in the PvP arena, that's also a great question, maybe because it's a mix between it's part of a game I bought, and I want to experience it, and at times Bungie makes it very lucrative to go into PvP, other times, it's a highly unbalanced mess that makes you wonder how they even got the green light to have it within it's game. The fact of the matter is, Bungie realized that it wasn't the greatest thing to let the rewards be so randomly given out, given players could grief the team and dance the entire time and walk out with the best items. They have adjusted the formula to a degree with how rewards roll out, now I believe it's only if you win and you place within a certain score bracket, you are eligible. They have as well issued Legendary Marks (that games Lore) as reward for going in.

But this isn't Destiny, FF14 doesn't play in the same ball park, though I wish 14 would implement some things from Destiny, they're too highly different games which way different ideologies as to how the games should be.

And then you look how Warlords of Draenor did, with it losing over half of the subscribers it brought in within ~3 months, forcing a patch to put in a F2P option via spending in-game gold on game time from other players and immediately announcing the next expansion. Rapidly ending any further content development on the current expansion because it would mean the next 60$ expansion would come out later. They also stopped reporting sub numbers entirely. Effectively turning Warlords of Draenor into a pump and dump expac and hoping they can do the same with Legion.

How does the first failed expansion in 10 years result in the communities fault? Last I heard that expansion failed because it was scrapped halfway through the development process and left many things out, many areas underused, implemented ideas not fully thought out, and didn't increase difficulty. So basically, it's Heavensward in it's entirety.
