I can understand that but still something to work on imo.The thing is, for one good mentor leaving because harassment or refuse to cooperate, we have plenty of others doing it on purpose because they don't like that dungeon, they cant' stand a wipe, they can't spend more than 20min in a mentor roulette etc.
I know it's unfair, but we need to get rid of those bad apple, i'm really sory f some good mentors have more penalty because of them, but i clearly don't see another way to deal with the bad mentors :/
EDIT : i don't want to blame all Moogle community at all but a know some kind of players on that server that can create that feeling of bad eggs you experiment Watachy
Bad mentors are tagging to get the mount but 1000 mentor's roulette is huge, they won't get it....
Which is why they have to remove any rewards from being a mentors, to make sure this ends, a lot of player will stop being a mentor but hey, who need a mentor that is here only for a reward and gets mean towards new players ?I remember when I healed Amdapoor HM.....
The tank was undergeared, both dps were mentors & overgeared.
The tank struggled to keep aggro & the mentors brutally berated him & I just sat quite bc I don't like conflict. Right before the first boss they told him all kinds of cruel things & finally he left....then both mentors proceeded to leave. So I was sitting there before the boss alone in absolute awe that people could be so horrible let alone MENTORS. And that is how I lost faith in them forever.
Plus, no wonder some refuses to ear mentor or see them as sharks, if you keep encountering A-hole along your journey as a new player, i guess you end up disabeling the chat log or become bitter towards mentors

People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
You know, I wouldn't be opposed to that. It'd certainly get rid of a fair bit of bad mentors.
I also think, as soon as they add new symbols like those for roleplayers, PVPers, raiders, what have you, the novelty of the mentor symbol will wear off for the folks who only wear the crown for the novelty.

Is it really that bad?
I do my content on DF quite often and I've never really gotten in such an conflict between mentors and new players (maybe because I'm usually the only mentor in a party at mentor's roulette? idk). I agree that this behavior is really inappropriate but I can see that happening, even without the mentor status tbh, it just sticks out more cause you see the crown icon (that's my theory at least).
Usually not getting such awkward stories cause I usually speak up against that but I can see why so many people are getting upset about mentors in general if people really experience something like this often.
But I encourage everyone to immediately speak up against those mentors and put them into place!
I've seen this happen both ways, both on Aurum Vale (before the mentor system, but the same kinds of players existed regardless). One time I was healing AV and the tank was undergeared and kept losing aggro (it was his first time). Being a fairly noob healer at the time, we wiped a lot, it upset him a little, but as a group we reassured him, taught him about positionals as a tank, gave him advice about AOE tanking, and I like to think that he was much better prepared for endgame tanking after that run than he ever had been before. The tank was undergeared, both dps were mentors & overgeared.

On the flip side, a bit later, I had a healer come into AV who after two wipes was so ashamed that she was causing the wipes that she left so that "we could get someone better". I feel so bad for people like that who have no confidence in their abilities because people berate them and tell them that they aren't good enough, or leave content because of wipes. Our group was baffled when she left because we were willing to put in the effort to help her through the instance.
How can i be matched with people that don't speack english on an european server ? Are my explanations not clear ? Ok i can understand that, but none are telling me that i'm not clear in my explanations. I can link a tutorial or something if they want too as well. Am trying to be a good mentor, but i have to face some stupid guy that just don't wanna play as a team and do what he want, yeah im pissed cause that solo is the ruining the experience of the 3 oher people (me included). So yeah facing this kind of people is pain, and yes im match with a lot of them. There is also "good eggs" as we said wich are really nice and just wanna learn but should i talk about'em ? The post is about mentor which are leaving, im only leaving when i have to face stupid people.
It's more difficult as there are a larger number of non-english speaking players on those servers in general, but if you queue in the english channel exclusively then you should run into people who dont speak english less (though some queue into the english channels for quicker queue times), and if you run into anyone who doesn't speak english, use the auto-translate, and encourage them to do the same.
Yeah that's basically what im doing. Queuing in spanish/english and French cause i know how to deal with the three of them and im still using the auto-translate when im not clear enough.
But yeah, i have a lot of people that don't even respond when im trying to explain fights/etc seems pointless sometimes ....
Dealing with sensible, smart players is easy. Dealing with stupid people is NOT easy. The mentors who bail as soon as the going gets tough? Those are the fair-weather mentors folks in this thread are complaining about.
No one enters an instance because they want it to fail. Everyone is there because they want to win. If someone refuses to communicate or follow instructions, it is because they can't, they don't understand, or don't see the point. Keep at it. Maybe the individual will improve, maybe they won't - but as mentor, it is your duty to provide the opportunity for growth. It's the mentor's duty to lead the horse to water - whether or not the horse drinks is out of your hands.
Also, remain calm and neutral at all times. Don't rise to abuse leveled against you, and don't respond with abuse. When pointing out strategies and players' shortcomings, be tactful and stay away from phrasings that impugn a player's intelligence (e.g., "You should have learned thirty levels ago not to stand in front of the boss!" or "Only an idiot would stand in that clearly marked aoe!" or "Why the hell didn't you kill that add?"). We're all human, and can lose our tempers from time to time, but understand that whenever we give in to our baser instincts, we wind up with threads like this one complaining about horrible mentors. Try not to add fuel to the fire.
As for bad mentors giving up before 2000 Roulettes... I wish I could say this were true, but it is not. Last week, one "mentor" bragged that they were up to 512 Roulettes; a quarter of the way done, after only a couple weeks. I shudder to think of the wrecked runs they left in their wake. Or, I dunno, maybe they got lucky with Guildhests. :P
