I would be more inclined to play if I consistently got placed with a team of plats against other plats but more likely than not I may very well get the bronze dark knight and have a guaranteed loss.

I was under the impression this was not possible. Do you happen to have a screenshot of this matchmaking (a bronze in the same lobby as a platinum) for clarification and confirmation purposes?

It was a slight exaggeration, but it is entirely possible for plats to have many silvers on their team against teams of golds.
