New race/gender combinations, race change opportunity

Hi!

I'm terribly excited about the announcement that the missing race/gender combinations are a 'must have' and scheduled ASAP - even if this "ASAP" is still quite a long ways off, that seems entirely reasonable to me. There's so much stuff to do that I can't imagine assets for new races being a huge priority.

However, this brings up a question for me. With 1.19 in play I actually have an incentive to return to the game, and I think 1.20 and onward will really make the game worth playing consistently! However, I really don't want to put time and effort into a character if I'm just going to be rerolling once they add the missing combinations.

I'd love to be able to roll a hume version of my eventual male Miqo'te, and just race change when the option becomes available! However, I don't think there's been any guarantee from the developers that the option to race change at least once upon new race addition will actually be in the game.

Am I wrong about this? I'd love to be able to experience the game's content without worrying that I'll have to reroll and lose my progress on PS3 release or whatever unspecified point in the future we're talking about. Does anybody else feel the same way? It'd be wonderful to get verification about this, or at the very least alert the dev team that it's an important issue for some people.

What? You would re-roll just to be a guy-cat?

You could you know... just edit dat files like in FFXI and make it appear you were a different race(probably... I havent done this).

Is it even possible to edit the dats as such in XIV? Regardless, there's a huge difference between appearing as one race on your local machine, and actually having your character be that race. At this point for me I don't really want to play the game until I can either a) play the race/gender combination I'm interested in presenting to other players, or b) I've seen some kind of statement from the developers that re-customising your character will actually be a possibility when they add in missing races, precisely because I don't -want- to reroll later on.

I can't find it atm, but I'm pretty certain that the devs said a one-time race-change would be offered once these new genders are released.

I guess I don't see the difference. If to you, you're a Man-Cat and to everyone else your a Lalafell... what difference is it going to make? No one is going to care what race you are.

But agree with Redace0, at least in my opinion it would be idiotic to not offer race changes after implementing new races. Though, the races don't do anything special... this isn't WoW or Rift where each race has some special ability.

That's awesome news! Does anyone actually know where they said that? (I had a -feeling- that this was the case, and it'd be kind of silly of them not to do this, but I can't actually find the devs saying this anywhere.)

Rem: I use PlasticSurgeon on FFXI occasionally I get where you're coming from! (I have other reasons for being willing to reroll, though, some of which are admittedly silly- it's just a matter of 'should I do it now, or when the game is in a more stable state and I can play as my preferred race/gender from the start?'.)

Some people, like me, take pride in their characters. My favorite race is a Lalafell and I can say that if I don't like a certain thing about a character I've made, I will actually reroll a hundred times until I make it exactly the way I want.

So I can personally understand why he would want to race change to a Man-Cat. He probably would take pride in the character he creates and wants people to see it the same way he does. Also if he RP's at all, it would be hilariously weird to RP a male-cat and appear as a Lalafell in game. Just saying.

I like the expanded responses now available from Yoshi's Live Letter - and in particular to the races; how they were looking at adding demi-humans and dragons. Are these demi-humans going to be playable? Honestly, if they were to add even Viera as a playable race I'd be in worship until the game dies (which I hope is a long-time off).
