One thing that's bugged me was why were all those corpses bigger than normal? I'm assuming they were the pirate crew; but why were they bigger than normal? Otherwise if they were Machi from a long time ago. Why were there no lalafells?

Back to topic, I'm assuming it's either the in-game artistic representation of Shatoto holding the soulgem that allowed for that level of black magic. Or given the statue in the city, the person who was able to bind the voidsent to the caster. At the least it would explain the chains as possibly being tethers to voidsent they summoned and control.

Regarding Lalafells: past discussions on the matter have landed on either (a) lazily re-used assets, (b) a deliberate choice to indicate that Mhach WASN'T actually an all-Lalafell population as previously assumed, or both.

I actually agree that the statue could totally be Shatotto - I'm pretty sure Shatotto's been confirmed female, but that COULD be a statue of a woman, and the meteor it's holding is pretty significant, I think.

By "those corpses" do you mean the Withered Talons in the Forgall fight? Those are the only crew of the Talon we fight, if I remember rightly. You could chalk up any and all size irregularities to either #1) separation of game mechanics and story #2) magic or #3) void magick.

I see nothing on it that definitively identifies it as a guy - no beard, for instance. It's pretty androgynous. As for the ugly comment...it's an old person. An old person is not going to be conventionally attractive.

Anyways, it could very easily be a woman, which means it could very easily be Shatotto. Especially given the location, and ESPECIALLY since it's holding the symbol most associated with her.

I am in complete agreement that it could easily be a woman. Let us not forget that Final Fantasy brought us Sorceress Adel.

On second look at those screenshots I took, I can see that the assumption of this figure being male was a bit presumptuous. Not sure how I can change the thread title or if the title is misleading enough to necessitate a change, but I'm not ruling out the Shatotto possibility either. That being said, could someone refresh my memory as to what race Shatotto was? It's been awhile since I went through the BLM questline and I've already called myself done for the night on the game.
