If we're travelling to Ala Mhigo as many of us expect then yes, Castrum Oriens would be the most likely route for us to take. There is another route via Coerthas, however, so that still remains a possibility.
Honestly I hope not, after having spent the past year in the Ishgardian areas I'm ready for the 2.0 areas to be somewhat relevant again, even if it's just for a few months.
I'd like a more dramatic end to 3.x than just, "Yay we free Ala!" I would honestly love of all of Eorzea marches on Ala Mhigo only to find a nation that is COMPLETELY loyal to the Garlean Empire. We suffer a humiliating defeat because, as the good guys, we don't want to fight the citizenry. Something along these lines would be so much deeper than just good vs bad. It would throw the main character into a moral grey area of how do you liberate people that already consider themselves free and happy? In this situation who is the true villain? I'd like 4.0 to be the scions deciding that infiltrating the Garlean Empire to sabotage it from within. Unlike Ishgard, where we sought asylum, we would be going in to conquer from the enemies lines.
This would actually be a very clever way to build the two separate zones of the city. A new section of town full of Garlean architecture built upon what was ruined in the initial take-over, and an old section that's remained mostly intact.
It would probably be like going into a old part of a city where we see the old builds, shops, and stuff while also seeing new shiny buildings that stick out a lot due to how new and different it looks as the old part of town gets torn down building by building to become replaced with a new modernized building.
I just hope we actually get to visit it as a city verses what happened to Sharlayan, wherein it's abandoned for reasons and not the REAL city. Hmph.
(It was likely a point mentioned SOMEWHERE that there were two cities called Sharlayan, one being an off-shoot of the other, but I NEVER gathered that until we were there, and I felt a bit cheated with what we got.)
Just wanted to add, that there is the big bridge that was once an instance to the first Gilgamesh battle, that could always open up and they move the instance marker to the side or something. Want to retract my Southern Thanalan statement as that would lead dead south and possible have nothing to do with Ala Mhigo unless they intended to it be a detour of sorts.
I'd like to see some ARR areas get some attention, perhaps it's safe to say HW is officially done now that Nidhogg is beaten and Ishgard will change for the better. I'd like to see them make new dungeon using assets from the Sylphlands. My theory is that you have to rescue Thancred and Alphid's sister from some danger (possibly marked by the Twleveswood since they consider them and the WoD one in the same and detest sneaking around) and you have to travel deep into the dungeon to meet with a representative and negotiate some kind of offering to call off the hit, perhaps work out a deal with Ramuh... be nice to have him shown again.
As for Ala Mhigo, I just realized this game is missing some deep lush jungles. I guess some parts of La Noseca would count but I was thinking large Everglade/Amazonian style with some strange temples and other nasties around. And some full underground areas that aren't regulated into instances or side areas. How cool would it be to find some hidden catacombs underneath Eorzea that you can freely explore once you have some permission?

I do not see him acting interested in getting the eyes. He seems more satisfied that we "played our parts" and the WODs made sure that we did so. And I'm not gonna comment on the Lahabrea thing again considering it's been beaten to death.
The route from Coerthas would take us through Xelphatol which I would love but... given 3.4's teaser post FSoF, I have to imagine through the East Shroud is our route more or less confirmed.
I can't wait to see how we get through the great wall erected by Garlemald after the conquest tho, in 1.0 I'm pretty sure it was mentioned almost no one ever managed to breach it... (there were a few members who asked the Path of the Twelve for help who escaped Ala Mhigo proper, but it sounded like their freedom was bought with a good number of sacrifices)
Looking at both the 1.0 map and Eorzea map, I doubt Coerthas Eastern Highlands will be a potential location to Ala Mhigo (it's more to the west) and Xelphatol. Too west.
Where did Coerthas Central Lowlands go?

I have a feeling the northern most area of Gridania will lead us to Xelphatol (or another Gridania zone leading to Xelphatol).
