Honestly the only English VAs that have positively nailed it for me in FFXIV are Aymeric and post-3.0 Tataru (because Carina Reeves really knows how to sound beyond adorable yet never cloying about it)

Because you have people that will swear by Japanese > English when it comes to voice acting.

About this, 90% I tend to prefer whichever voices I heard first.

The last %10 is reserved for when I have biased favortism towards certain voice actors, like Crispen Freemen (Alucard from the Hellsing english dub) or when the voice just doesn't fit at all ( Japanese goku from DBZ sounds a bit akward compared to the english version, while Vegeta sounds fine in Sub or Dub.)

While I like some of the HW ENG voice actors/actress, I do fear what will happen in 4.0. If in 4.0 the ENG gets a new cast again, then I will probably change to the Japanese voices. Playing FFXIV HW and hearing the cast with new voices was very weird and took me out of the game. A voice and character should stick toghter, can you imagine someone else being the voice actor of Aymeric? I know, I will be gutted, if they replace his voice actor in 4.0.

I also did not like how sneaky SE was, in most games and cartoons/anime its known that when a character voice is being changed, they address this ahead of time.

I have a semi-fluent understanding of Japanese. I just can't read it well.

To me the Japanese voice acting for this game is better, but pretty much I hold the opinion that usually the better option is the original language the game/show/movie was created in.

I watch movies in their original languages with subs and never dubs not just for Japanese things but for French also (which I am also semi-fluent without subs because Canadian). Also for pretty much any other language too even ones I don't understand at all like Chinese/Spanish/Italian.

It usually seems forced, less emotional at parts, and a lot of random mouth flapping with confused voices coming out...not every dub is that bad mind you but I can always see the inconsistencies in the mouth movements and the voice no matter how hard they try to match it.

You know what's funny is that japanese people happen to see it the other way around.

Most native english speakers don't actually speak japanese, and don't know the general inflection of the language, and cannot attest to how poor or good their voice acting and line delivery actually is.
