what about the Warriors of Darkness then? Y'Shtola noticed something was off with that group.
The primal theory doesn't work, sure, but we still don't know what an eikon truly is... That one would still be a possibility I think. The WoL's aether is noted as being unique by various characters, just not in the same way as a primal's.
Unukulhai's story suggests that the Warriors of Darkness may actually be the ones that destroyed his world. If true then they've been absorbing corrupted primal aether for a long time which would explain Y'Shtola's reaction.
My hypothesis is that, again, they are from a destroyed world brought here by Elidibus - he is the one now Observing them (recognizing their existence) as opposed to Hydaelyn, which would explain the difference. More than likely it's just a throwaway line to let us know they're not friendlies, though.
Based on the two cases we have, my theory is that an eikon is just a physical object given Primal status. Zantetsuken is just a sword... unless someone's possessed by it, then Odin. Sephirot was just a tree... then got prayed to and boom, six-armed giant-growing Primal. Let's see if this holds. Anyway, a primal and eikon are similar enough, so preeeeeeetty sure the Scions would have noticed...The primal theory doesn't work, sure, but we still don't know what an eikon truly is... Unukalhai's story suggests nothing but that it's possible to use Auracite (not our White Auracite, which is specifically noted by Moenbryda to have a very limited containment time) as an aether battery, and that doing so has... detrimental effects over time. The WoDs have not been seen using Auracite (of any variety) and Unukalhai has not yet mentioned them. Remember as well that anyone near a primal when it is felled absorbs a small amount of corrupted primal aether... which is how we make SMN egis and use the Dreadwyrm Trance, yet we're none worse for the wear.
The WoL's aetheric signature has to be really complex (and unique). Start with our base Aether (including whatever comes from our classes and jobs), add in the effects of the Blessing, Echo, and whatever Midargsormr is doing to us, the 6 Crystals of Light we have, traces of every Primal we've slain (15 at this point), some of Hraesvelgr's Aether (we have to have retained a tiny bit from when we absorbed his Eye briefly), and whatever else we happened to have absorbed and kept (probably some of Nidhogg's Aether from killing him and using his Eye, traces of Ysayle's Crystal of Light, scars from Ascian and Primal attacks, and so on)
I'm sure Y'stola (and anyone who can sense Aether) can "see" us from malms away...
In other words, if they were a Primal, then she would had easily noticed? That seems to be the consensus when it comes to debunking that theory. The WoL's aetheric signature has to be really complex (and unique). On the other hand, as Cilla mentioned Eikonic beings beem to be Deified objects, so on the one hand it is still possible that the WoL could be an Eikon in the future, but on the other hand such a possibility is highly unlikely unless Zurvan and Sophia were Deified people rather than Deified objects. If they are still objects made deiform entities, then I would have to agree with Enkidoh that "WoL being a primal" is on the "Ain't gonna happen" list next to Unfettered FL queues and FC Primal Summoning
Yes. Primals have a very unique signature that we do not possess. Also take note that the Archbishop and Ysayle did not have it when Thordan and Shiva were not summoned.
Yeah, lore-wise there's basically no chance that the WoL will willingly become a Primal. I'm not going to completely discount the possibility that we are forced to play host to a Primal (like Ysayle and Shiva) in order to defeat the Ascians...but the chances of that happening are basically non-existent.
Not to mention all of the Scions, save Tataru and Minfilia, are equipped with special goggles that let them view aetherflow. Meaning if you really were a Primal, they'd have noticed from our first meeting, barring some kind of interference from Hydaelyn.

To add, said interference would also be a paradox since she is unlikely to be a Primal and the Primals are confirmed to be leeching off the realm's aether, aiding a primal would be suicide for her.
Which brings Ysayle/Shiva into question during the Heavensward story. I have to headcannon that she talks to the WoL and promises to only summon Shiva if there's no other choice, and that once the need is over, she's unsummoned...otherwise she gets another beating from you.
Was it explained how Ysayle learned how to summon?
