    No idea how it worked in EQ, but try to imagine a bunch of instanced hallways haphazardly packed to the gills with immobile NPCs. So many NPCs that even good rigs had a very hard time loading more than a handful at a time and only within a few feet of you. And you had to painstakingly pick through each and every one of them looking for the item or price you wanted (though they eventually added a search and filter function), hoping you weren't missing anyone simply because the game didn't load them because they were three feet to your left. That was the 1.0 Market Wards in a nutshell.

    In EQ was a huge room with hundreds of players AFK in trader mode.
