Hey everyone, I was about to reply in a thread we have here but didn't feel to go off-topic but to focus on three key points.
And yes, lurking mode is off for a while now.
Before you start reading, I love Final Fantasy -and- Final Fantasy online, been a FF player and fan since FF6 (yeah, I am 29-years old now), so everything I've wrote in this topic are for the better, these are my wishes in order to get the game a better place for all the Final Fantasy fans.
FFXIV, in my opinion, has three big issues;
a) The music. Soken is great composer and the game has some special tracks around I liked as well but it means nothing when it comes to Final Fantasy and this is not a random MMORPG, but a Final Fantasy online. The gap with Uematsu/Mizuta and their 1.0 OST is too big, it's time the 'Enix' people get their distance from the game and those who are still J-RPG (and MMORPG, considering how FFXI was good back in time) masters come back, like Kobouto and Tanaka (maybe close to Yoshi-P), entering the stage once again.
Wasting in this way one of the greatest gift Squaresoft and Square-Enix had/has for so long is, sincerely, sad. If there's a way they can easily kick Blizzard's ass when it comes to MMORPGs, it's the music by Uematsu and Mizuta.
b) The patterns. Being zombies when it comes to creativity (they should learn from the original FFXI team and even the 14 1.0 which didn't give a fuck about post WoW MMORPGs and failed just because it wasn't ready enough on the servers/UI side). The tomestone system, the mog tribes system: those are by far the game's pillars and it's very, very bad.
c) The gear and the rewards. The gear scenario is extremely flat; we have no legendary items and everything can be obtained with few days of grind by everyone. FFXI had relics and mythics, a huge quest for both of them where only few people on the servers were able to actually get the latest update (pre Abyssea); a mix of dedication, skill and community work (this is a MMORPG and I am all for killing solo rewards). The only true reward which fits this logic is -one- weapon drop in the latest raid turn which is gonna be deprecated in few months as soon as the casual patch comes out.
We had the cursed system in FFXI which required top crafters, we had dynamis, we had Nyzul and we had ways more than spamming tomestones every week.
We had already few threads about gameplay limitations such trading gils and the retainer' system (I miss bazaars so much!), so it's gonna be nice if we don't go off-topic.
*This is a player's PoV, so I don't care about numbers at all. FFXIV 2.0 has a large community but also unstable, above 50% of the players come back just for a new patch. On the other hand, FFXI had a very stable one and true fans who, like me, are still hoping things gonna reverse in the 'Squaresoft' way we were used to. Which is not old at all on my eyes (creativity and talent will never get old), but simply better.
