How much Craftsmanship and Control do you think we'll need for the next recipes?

When the ironworks recipes were released, I had just barely passed the requirements with pentamelded crafted gear, Company Actions, and food.

I've already pentamelded the new gear, but not the Main Hands or Off Hands yet. I'm wondering what to put there. (or just leave them empty for now)

What do you think is the best way to prepare for the new recipe requirements?

And, pure speculation, what do you think the Craftsmanship and Control requirements are going to be for the new recipes?

We can assume one of two things, either the first is that the new recipes will be "3.5-star" to allow those who have a full set of augmented -keep's equipment, excluding the off-hand of course, to craft them; or that the new recipes will require an "augmented -keep's [off-hand]," which would increase the minimum requirements. In the former case, we know the totals would be 870 craftsmanship and 835 control; in the later case, we could assume 910 craftsmanship and 850-860 control. In either case, these recipes will likely be much easier to craft than we have had prior. Alternatively, they will add in a third tier of the main hands for the -keep's equipment to allow an even higher requirement, but we'll have to wait and see if they take that route.

I built several models for scaling the recipe requirements based off highest available gear at release of the 2 star and 3 star recipes and depending on whether they scale the difficulty of the scrip gear or the crafted gear you're probably look at a minimum craftsmanship of 960 to a maximum of 1020. Craftsmanship to control ratio has been roughly 1.05:1 so you're looking at a control requirement from 925-980. Anything in that range will be obtainable with food, specialist buff and melded 190 accessories if you go the scrip route for the left side and tools, and more easily obtainable if you go full crafted.

On a side note, I think the requirements will be closer to the low end at patch 3.4 with 4* recipes, and closer to the high end at 3.5 with 4*+ recipes.

http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/UT9I This set hits 986 craft, 938 control (before food) without over-melding tier v materia, and leaves the 3 pieces of equipment impossible to cap open for future use as required/desired.

I don't see there being any possibility of all the new recipes being "3.5-star" crafts considering we already have that in 3.3. The i220 crafted battle gear is 3 star so we can expect 4 stars to be a thing in 3.4.

Mature seems to be on the right track. I would say the absolute maximum would be 980 Craftsmanship and 950 Control, so as long as you can meld that you should be completely ready for 3.4. That seems doable with very few Grade Vs, maybe even none on a specialist class.

Edit: In response to Deathgiver, I can see potential "4.5-star" recipes requiring around 1020 craftsmanship if we get new Lucis tools.

    I will have a dance/cry/rejoicing marathon!

I am melding my gear but saving the tools, seems the smartest course of action and saving any grade V's i come across, we just won't know til we know, ya know!

However something to consider is that the dice/cup gear isn't melded at all. I would be SHOCKED if Yoshi made that gear irrelevant by NEEDING GOD MELDS but we will have to wait and see.

I also really hope we get new Lucis tools before the next expansion. I had painful yet fond memories of trying to craft the 3 star materials required for the Lucis tools. By far the most challenging crafts we've had; I'd like to see something as challenging again.

I found the Lucis tool crafts to be rather relaxing, with how forgiving those were. Any NQ crafts could just be refunded for the most important mats, so the crafter only loses a few simple mats + clusters. (Example: GSM recipe refunded 3 Clear Fluorite and 1 Emery, only causing you to lose 1 Siltstone Whetstone, 1 Basilisk Whetstone, 3 Wind and 2 Fire clusters)

The Master Book II items on the other hand were much more unforgiving, and those didn't even have a NQ refund until much later.

Speaking of accessories, Square have to allow for melding for them to be useful. Not overmelding, but 1 or 2 melding slots. Otherwise the i170 crafted accessories will be better than i200 accessories.

At only 1 or 2 meld slots the i170 would still be better. Maybe if they add a modest amount of craftsmanship and control to the base stats they would be worth getting for the ppl who don't want to penta-meld all the things.
