I find it just an annoying feature that doesn't add anything to the gameplay. Quite useless.

some of the materials are a major pain to find(or make, im sorry but i hate making rings/plates and chains and such)
sometimes the main problem isnt the material though, but the lack of willingness to pay
the last few days before the game went down, i saw several people in game bitching up a storm about repairs, and guess how much they had them in their bazaar for....100gil, 500gil and so on, i brung this to one of their attentions and they went into a major fit about how i couldnt tell them what to do, and if i didnt want to repair it i didnt have to(i only told them id do it for 3k gil), and they continued to go about their business shouting after saying some very unsavory things to me beyond what i mentioned.
but thats the biggest issue in all when it comes to finding people with the materials, as someone who can repair every item in the game(almost) my only incentive to carry certain materials is how much people are willing to pay me to do them compared to the cost to me.
if people arent going to pay me what its worth im not going to bother repairing it anymore, cuz i wont even carry the material

This would make it way too easy... And unless you are the one repairing the gear, why are you worried about finding the material? crafters prefer gil (or shards/crystals) most of the time.
I actually appreciate the deterioration of armor and weapons, especially now that's it's been tweaked. I find that people that have a hard time getting items fixed are not offering enough incentive to have them fixed. Take into account the labor involved ranking a craft to the rank required for your item, the cost of the ingredient needed to repair, and the rarity of the rank needed and/or rarity of the ingredient needed to repair. I myself have a few crafts ranked up enough to repair some of my (and my LS's) minor gear.
I find the feature to be more of a small challenge than a nuisance. It gives an element of struggle, I actually prefer it. Only thing I would like to change is the ability to offer gil or item as a reward for repairs. Why not both?? I think that would raise the incentive to many crafters, as well as to those seeking difficult or rare repairs.

I have to agree. It's ever so irritating when you're cruising the Mender's Ward and everyone has their gear at 1gil. I'm not gonna lose money to repair a stranger's gear. Gil is not hard to come by. And it's not hard to maintain gear anymore. I'm not gonna charge the 10k the NPC does, but I expect at least 3k for something.
I can't answer for everyone who offers 1 gil for repairs, but I have at times asked my LS members to set up their retainers for repair for 1 gil so I can repair it for them when I get back to town. I don't like charging friends for repairs, I'd rather ask for favors ^.~ I wouldn't ever bother repairing someone else gear for 1 gil, unless I knew them or they were a member of my LS. Which, I am assuming, is why people set it for 1 gil, for similar reasons. But again, I can't answer for everyone...I have to agree. when someone has it up for 1gil i usualy ask them if its a ls repair, and you would be surprised at how many say no, its for anyone to repair their gear for them. and if you point out that they are asking people to give them free repairs, they argue about it like they shouldnt have to pay for them period.I can't answer for everyone who offers 1 gil for repairs, but I have at times asked my LS members to set up their retainers for repair for 1 gil so I can repair it for them when I get back to town. Wow, that's kind of crazy... Like I said, I would never repair anything for 1 gil (for a stranger). Nor would I ever expect others (strangers) to do that for me. It seems disrespectful. Feels like they are saying "oh? you're R20 weaver and can repair my item? Get to work slave..."when someone has it up for 1gil i usualy ask them if its a ls repair, and you would be surprised at how many say no, its for anyone to repair their gear for them. and if you point out that they are asking people to give them free repairs, they argue about it like they shouldnt have to pay for them period.

I prefer thinking everyone who did that was just looking for LS repairs lol. Makes me feel more appreciated as a crafter...

I understand why they put it in, but I think the min. rank to repair it is a bit too high.
just look at something reasonably people. if the item to repair your gear costs 2k offer that + w/e you feel is fair over that price for the repair. alot of times i can repair an item, but don't have the mat. if you don't like the cost level your craft til you can make or buy the repair material. alot of times if you offer the material crafters will do it for free or add a few hundred gil to the repair on top of the mat. just remember if a crafter can sell an item for 2k they are unlikely to part with that mat for less.
i actually think the rank to repair the item is about right if not a little lower. if you are not good enough to make the item or close to it how would you be able to repair that item to a respectable quality?

you have to be basicaly -10 of the optimal level of the item, and lets be honest, thats VERY VERY generous.
so yoour rank 50 gear needs a rank 40+ to repair? can you honestly expect much more then that? do you think its realistic to let rank 10s repair it? oh hell no.
part of the cost of having higher level gear is having less people to repair it, and if you had it made by someone in specific(not bought in wards) then remember that person and have them repair it in the future, cuz they should easily be able to.
