I have to agree. My point is/was, deleting a player's alt characters, even if they've been inactive since 2013 is a punishing that player for having an infrequently used Alt. You might not have a problem with it, but others would. The entire discussion is talking about something that is a punishment to those it affects, a punishment for no wrong doing purely for the convenience of others. That's ridiculous.

Also my question is, why even entertain the idea of it, if there is less dramatic alternatives to the issue? To be frank, given the fact we have both first name and surname... it shouldn't really be one at all.
Me: "Aww man I'm clicking all the wrong buttons tonight!"
Friend: "You're i190, you can't click a wrong button unless it is no buttons"
Me: "lol"
Seriously, come up with another name. Why would you even want a name someone else already has?
Delete a character, NO! But taking their name, assuming they are not being used for in the future and to be used out of spite so nobody can use it, YES!
An example would be the player that created Roy Mustang on alot of servers, he/she probably did this so others can not use it. A friend of mine hates the Naruto characters so whenever a new MMORPG launches, first thing he does is create alts with the main character names and create them on as many servers as possible. He benches them and never touches it again.
Unplayed characters do take up space. Unless they routinely move character data of inactives to other servers/databases, it is taking up space which is searched for queries. Imagine searching for "Right One" in the following
Other One
Right One
Played One
Wrong One
Now try searching for it in this
Purple One
Zero One
Red One
Unplayed One
Green One
Right Onee
Mega One
Right One
Yellow One
It shows a difference in lookup time which is a major factor in speed/server load. Of course this is just a small example but scale it up to several tens of thousands and you get the idea
I have to say, no. Why should people have to lose their characters (and with them their house, irreplaceable items/mounts/minions [The Wind-Up Shantotto, Wind-Up Brickman and Merchandise items up to 2015 are still in "Expired Supply" status, Furniture is in "Limited Supply" and only because they can be sold on MB] and story progress [Keep in mind the MSQ is from Level 1 to 60 is long enough for the devs to considering a Jumping Potion]) simply because you think you are entitled to use a name from an anime? I feel like that would deal a more decisive blow on this games life span than any P2W feature they would dare to implement (like the aforementioned potion), especially giving Housing as a precedent.
Then again, I might be biased since I did took a long break from the game (started in 2.2, took a break in 2.4 returned a little bit before 3.1 launched).
Also this is not even about anime, I am sure there are people that want a non anime name that is taken. It is not like everyone is whining that they are not Naruto. Also since events are level 15+, retainers are 15+ etc, deleting an Unplayed level 10 and under is not going to cause massive losses
Oh yeah definitely all those Sephirutxx Clouddxx and Danny'' Targaryen'' need their names freed up in time for the FF7 remake and the next GoT season, just think of how many xs and apostrophes would be needed if they don't free up the countless ones already in use.
I once heard that there's some people that are selling names, though that's probably very rare and not sure how that'll work
