FFXIV 2nd expansion: Viera-like race still a possibility?

All races are humanoid, not wanting Vieras because of that is a form of virtual racism

This entire forum is full of virtual racism, nothing new there.


I think they kind of made a mistake adding Au'ra in the first expansion.. Not because I don't like the race, because I do; it's just that now people kind of expect there to be a new race every expansion (kinda like how they don't do fanfest every year because they think people will expect an expansion announcement) .. As much as I'd love to see another race I'm on the customization boat.

Improve game first.

Unless your issue is character models then the people working on a new game and the people improving the game in general would probably be different people. People who make and animate models don't have the skills to design dungeon fights, develop itemisation systems and do back end coding usually.

That said, I think I would be more interested in them developing the existing races rather than trying to add a new one.

Lol well .. they might have the skills , they might not, your point is correct though. It would be a different team/department handling it if your gripe is core systems, gameplay, sound, fx, etc... It always cracks me up when people think the entire development team has to stop working to do this one thing, and if they do this one thing they can't do something else... that's just not how it works lol

Especially when we did the male designs… they didn't look beastly enough, they were just a little too cute. We wanted to make something that was original to the Final Fantasy series, and to do that, we decided to step away from the Viera.

Personally I feel this game could use some cute male characters. I myself am a fan of anime boys model, who are slender, small and with feminine traits (narrow shoulders, long legs, big eyes, thin chins). The closest we get to that is Hyur Midlander and I feel that is still not enough (Miqo'te males were a close second, but without a build slider to narrow their arms and shoulders, it's just not happeneing). The best would be a Teen option for all races, then I'd settle with Elezen just to have Alphinaud's model... But another race with more androgynous males would be best.

Does no one care about Ivalice lore? Do people just want Viera because of the "oooh! new! shiny" aspect of it just like the maid outfit and Bennu's? Keep them where they belong in the world of Ivalice, I love FFXIV for its fan service and their takes on various things but let it be its own thing or have a new race entirely or do what I said before in either this thread or the other Viera thread, make a viera like race but make it so it is its own thing at the same time just like how Tarutaru and Lalafells are distinguishable from each other.

Well, Vieras are children of the nature if i remember correctyl and we got a huge forest with many spirits in it. We could imagine "lorely speaking" that spirit of the forest feel in danger because of the expansion of the garlemald (they already are in the forest) and, to protect it, they could create a race of warrior, not being "submited" to the city of Gridania but only to the forest and its spirits.
It could even had a story regarding Gridania, the spirits are not happy with the way they handle the invasion, they create their warriors, Vieras are kind of feared and "hated" by the gridanian people etc etc
It could fit.
