Deleting characters is never a good thing, my buddy came back to the game after a year break.. under your rules he would have to start over.

Even if it's an alt I don't agree, I can never get behind deleting characters for any reason. The only exception would be gil sellers.

Now, if we are worried about names being taken, you could have a system that releases a name after x period of time of no play or something of that sort... I don't particularly like that either, but it sounds a hell of a lot better than deleting characters.

No. I would suggest thinking about an unique name instead of using anime/book/game characters name. They're popular and will always be. FFXIV gives plenty of room for using a name that you like since you have the first and last name.

No idea, but its definitely an underhanded move of the player's part considering they likely have no intention of ever playing on those characters. They're there just to keep the name blocked on those servers.

Honestly, Ive got a couple of names backed up on the "just in case" term, one for male viera and a wolf type race, even Bangaa. gotta think ahead in this game unfortunatly

I'm not necessarily against that. I hate it when people ripoff names from popular media, maybe that guy feels the same way and decided to do something about it.
