The release date shouldn't be too different from Heavensward, other than hoping they lower the content drought we had between 2.55 and 3.0, another like that between 3.55 and 4.0 and you will see many people taking breaks.

6 months, 2.5 was split in two, ending with two very lackluster patches (2.5 and 2.55) instead of a single big 2.5 patch.
By the time 2.55 came out most people burned through 2.5 content, including 24 man raid, and 2.55 added nothing in terms of replayable content, just the ending of the story.
I do remember the drought. I also took a year break while waiting for the contents. The weekly lockout for tombstone increased to 900 and people was burning contents like mad. I made full set of 130 gears for all my job just in few weeks.6 months, 2.5 was split in two, ending with two very lackluster patches (2.5 and 2.55) instead of a single big 2.5 patch.

Think he mean 2.5-3.0 which was 5+ months. 2.55 wasn't a huge patch but it was a good story one that most people believed (YoshiP confirmed) was supposed to be at least 4-6 weeks shorter than it turned out to be. (It was better to get the expac right than launch a month early).
WoD was the only real repeatable content added in that era. There were no extreme versions of Chrysalis or Steps of Faith. There was no much desired Ultima:Extreme (there is STILL none of this which is just plain sad). So yeah there was a large content drought at the end of the expac. This is nothing new in the genre, but we hope that YoshiP & Co. can live up to their promise to reduce this fact next year. (ie it would be awesome if we could see this expac come late March 2017 (but realistically it will be April/May)
I'd rather be in Zitah
