SE store shipping costs

I wanted to get the fat cat plush available on the SE store because I like it and there's a sale going on at the moment, but I balked at the extreme shipping cost.

Because the shipping cost to EU countries in the EU store on this €30 plush is a whopping €20.

Except in the UK store it is only £5 and change (with the plush itself at around £25 - in other words currency exchange does not account for this).

What gives? Why is shipping to the rest of the EU so much more expensive than the UK?

It probably just goes through the standard mail system for UK orders but for EU orders it'll be a specialist courier company and they'll be more expensive.

It goes through DHL for the mainland, with a 2-3 day shipping time. I don't necessarily mind this except we are not given another option. I would gladly wait a few days more for my item to arrive so that I won't have to pay 2/3 of the item's price in shipping.
