I don't understand the naysayers' positions. It's as if they want rigidity for rigidity's sake. An MMO does not last long being rigid like that, of course XI is an exception but STFU about that.

I don't want a FFXI-2. I want a game set in a Final Fantasy world where I can CHOOSE what to wear, regardless of penalties. The requirements are stupid.

And it gets even stupider when you look at all of the NPC examples of different classes wearing non-matching armor, completely FLOUTING the new rules.

    Seriously, this is disrespect.

Ultima Online is very rigid and it's been out even longer than XI, much like many MMO's that use a rigid gear system they all suceeded as well.

Don't act like XI was the only game to say only a lvl 15 pld can wear these pants.

There are a lot lot of topics that I don't really agree with you on Ren (you know this ^-^), but for this one I honestly agree with pretty much everything you've said in this thread. It's yet another in a rather large string of changes that SE has made that I really dislike, and further adding to the reason that I likely won't be playing if they start charging for the game in the near future. The bolded part sums up pretty much my entire stance on this topic.

Are you kidding me? Most of the MMOs out today have been around for AT LEAST 5 years excluding obviously new ones. All MMOs have requirements or restrictions of some kind.

Allowing classes to equip gear not suited for them does no harm to the game if you make the proper decisions when wearing your actual battle gear. Being a gladiator shouldn't mean you don't know how to put on a robe. The robe should not provide benefit to a gladiator but I see no reason why a gladiator somehow can't wear it. Some magical force on the robe is preventing it I guess.

Just killed one of my favorite aspects of this game. I did a quest and got a steel chainmail armor piece as a reward. That is cool I wonder what it looks like. Nope, I am not the required class. I guess it is what people wanted though to define their class more, oh well. This game is so much more defined now by having fewer choices.

Bolded the quotes I feel suits this thread the best. Seriously, these were QUALITIES FFXIV had, and now no longer have. This is starting to become XIV's "NGE" moment for me, where it drives off a long-time, stalwart veteran.

Because of these class requirements, we can't diversify our looks like that anymore, and that makes Feral a sad kitty. A very, very sad kitty.

In fact, this is likely going to be the one reason why I will never dispose of my Dated equipment, because that equipment allows me to wear it anytime, with any class I choose, of my own making. Much to the chagrin of the designers of the new recipes, I'm sure.

Yoshi-P has lost 100 points of respect!
Same here, it would be better to still be able to equip anything that is "non-unique player-crafted equipment".

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

I just noticed, and thought I'd throw this out there because it kind of goes along with the OP.

wtf is with colored versions of gear having different class requirements and better stats? That should've been an obvious major nono. Whats the point of even having undyed gear if that piece is going to be inferior to the colored one?

Personally I find the Cobalt (Red) gearset rather hideous, but I'm forced to wear it over the perfectly fine Cobalt set simply because I don't want to miss out on better stats :/

I'd rather be restricted or else everybody would be wearing the same high level armor and there would be no diversity. Cool armor would lose their appeal quickly.
