Seems to be that way, im redoing the mix of all 3 (got rainbow first time) and I am also going to try just mixing blue and red (cus purple is close to black in my thinking) and see if it darkens it out.

On the upside, the rainbow set is kinda nice :3

I assume it's like gardening where you need to wait 1 hour earth time before adding addictional fertilizer.

I got the message too but didn't keep an eye on the clock, so I am not sure if it's one hour wait or less.

Yeah, seems to just be random once you have activated the "or an unusual shade" prompt. Kept em both as red, one came out as Black, the other as Red.
