The indoor planters are meant more to work like the moghouse planters in FFXI, where they give you flowers to make your house look pretty and ore and crystalsI know this last patch introduced gardening pots for use indoors. But by being one plot only, they don't allow crossbreeding. But the gardening system...
...The more effectively apartments can fulfill the role of a house, the better they'll be at reducing the strain on the wards.
Yes, but while introducing a new feature is nice, it doesn't replace the absence of a quite different feature. As it stands, the pots are a nice addition, but they don't solve the problem of not having access to gardening in an apartment or chamber. Even people who get some housing features by getting an apartment, will still need a house if they want access to other significant housing features.
With the apartments being instanced and the housing wards constant, the apartments are going to be a lot easier on SE's servers, so presumably easier for them to expand. But that only benefits them if players accept that having an apartment constitutes having housing. If it doesn't, then demand for the actual house plots will remain unchanged. So it's important to ensure that all the features you get by having a house, you can also get (just in a smaller size) by having an apartment.

The apartments will probably have a balcony and that will be the "outside" area where you can put "outdoor" furniture and other stuff like the garden patches, or maybe they will be garden pots...and this will only happen if SE decides to make apartments have the same stuff that housing has(which I doubt they will do). They will want to keep some options available to people that have houses that apartment dwellers will not have like for example the FC Workshop. I bet they will not allow FC apartments and if they do, that means that the apartments will probably be available in small, medium and "penthouse".
Oh, that would be nice.
Well, that's already not available in people's personal houses, only in FC houses. I'm thinking more in terms of making the apartments equivalent to the personal houses. Players using the apartments for their personal housing would then free up space in the wards for FC houses (which is what the wards were originally designed for).

Crossbreeding is a perk of house gardens and should probably stay that way to maintain the value of those items, imo.

The wards were designed for FC houses and personal houses. The FC houses just came first ingame.
During the live letters about housing during 1.x and ARR beta they never mentioned to keep FC houses and private houses in separated zones

I disagree, wards weren't designed for personal houses, the housing shortage should be enough proof of this.
I love it when people pull facts from thin air.
I'll have to find the quote but Yoshida Stated when asked about personal housing versus FC housing he originally stated it would be a totally different system and much more affordable for the average player. Somewhere down the line they hit a snag with the system and somebody decided it would be easier to just flip the ownership switch from Company leader to anyone who has the cash.
The wards were never meant to sustain the whole playerbase. To think otherwise is to ignore the obvious.
Ahh here we go.
While it never states it would be a separate system the things they promised would be impossible in the current system such as making personal housing more affordable than company housing.Personal HousingWhile I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable. In Summary
- The final price of land on all Worlds is subject to adjustments, and may fall lower
- Over the course of three months, prices on legacy Worlds will fall to match those of World Group 3
- Personal housing will be far more affordable than free company housing
