You whipper snappers have it good these days, back when I was a young gatherer we started out with 0 GP when changing from a DoW/DoM job, and your chocobo couldn't fly to gathering points.

"Cap" aka 85% for legendary nodes right now is 723/714, preferably 650GP. source (https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...akpoints_data/)
perception is hardcapped at 714 with 10%, while gathering is softcapped only. Since legendary nodes have a chance to reduce GP, 650GP right now is golden, whether with food or not up to you, i have it without food so i dont need to bother with it.

HQ rates on legendary nodes don't hard-cap at 10%. i regularly see 11%.

i understand the virtue of not raising gathering stat beyond that required to get 85% success rate but best not call that a "Cap" either.

Yeah, those "caps" aren't hard caps. I think what was meant is that at 10% HQ rate, your appraisals are capped on collectibles.

At 85% success rate and 650 GP, you can spend 600, get your 50+ GP bonus, and have enough GP to get up to 100%. But it's not a "cap" when you get a -200 GP bonus on one of the first two swings, and can use an extra Single Mind, leaving only enough GP for +5% gathering rate.
