I feel this is something that people often miss. "Equal" is not "the same". You can be equal, yet different.
From what I remember, Lightning wears a Guardian Corps uniform that should have an existing male variant.
This is true, I did forget about that. Just further proves the point that all of this can be done.

But people want Lightning's uniform, not the Guardian Corps uniform from a random male ^^
There will be difference in the design (people don't like differences in the gear designs, see DRG AF1 threads) and it will not have the same scent

What they mean is, they can redesign the outfit to have the same color scheme and such. Wouldn't be as random.

It is. We even see her CO, Amodar, wearing the male variant briefly in-game, which is of a very similar design Though a different color, (probably due to the rank difference), only with long pants. Personally, I'd prefer they kept the shorts model for male characters anyway, considering we already have a lot of good 'long slacks' options in game, and relatively few shorts that males can wear, and I wouldn't say no to keeping the belly window, because really, guys should get to show skin, too? But ultimately I'll just be happy to get to wear the event set I actually like the look of, since the Sow coat is far and away not to my tastes.
If you want to frame it that way, then yes, we do need people crossdressing, because people want to do it and the world needs MRoes in pink meido cosplay.right because we need people cross dressing...if anything some stuff is better because it's gender locked granted i'd like to some of the swimsuits the males have like the ones with the tattoos be added to females selection or that they add a type of swimsuit for female that has similar tattoo's but for the females or give us access to the male versions of weapon poses monk pose for female isn't good at all
Why are you not okay with males wearing current female-only items, but apparently want all male items and even emotes unlocked for female use? That's not fair to male characters or the people playing them. It can't be because the items are feminine or would allow for cross-dressing, because that's already perfectly possible curently...don't make me dig out the screens of my character in the Swansgraceballgownset.

The issue then arises that some things are more equal than others however. The afro or pompadour is just as good a haircut as the lightning cut, right? Except that I wager over 70% of the female characters would much rather have the lightning cut. I'm being generous here, I never saw any female with an afro anywhere, not even as joke.
Even mathematically, it's nigh impossible to create equality without identity if you consider preferences. 1+5 and 3+3 are both six, but what if a more even composition is preferred? Then 3+3 is better than 1+5, because it's more even. Day shift and night shift both have the same amount of working hours and length of breaks, yet day shift is typically considered better than night shift, hence night shift often needs additional incentives. And let's not even get into the discussion of gender roles and "equal, yet different rights and duties". We really don't need to start the outrage about women wearing pants again either.
So yeah...you'll be hard pressed to ever offer two actually equal, yet different options. Chances are, one will always be inferior and which will depend on the individual evaluating them.
