lmfao pretty much.Dev1: Hey, i have this cool idea, lets make a quest line that makes your weapon grow, lets you customize its stats and is somewhat powerfull enough but no replacement for the very high end weapons, lets add a few very cool NPCs and lets make ultimately, the weapon itself a new character, giving players the chance to experience a good story, nice characters, have sense of progression and also some level of customization all at once!
Dev2: Thats an amazing idea! now lets implement that, but first lets put a massive timesink on it to make it the biggest chore in the whole game so make sure that 90% of the players don`t even bother and the remaining 10% is so pissed at the end of the process that any of those good ideas like the story, characters and customization are irrelevant.

How relic quest was designed.
I think you were right about the Dev1 part but not the Dev2 part. The Dev2 part I think went more along the lines of...great idea but if we give them something equal to the raid weapons then the raiders will whine and complain so let's make it take longer than forming a static and learning a fight. I am almost certain the grind is as long as it is to offset the complaints a lot of raiders would make if was comparable to their raid obtained versions without making the non-raid version take much longer to obtain for most people.
After forming the static it probably on average takes around few dozen practice runs to get the specific fights down, on the flip side making the final stage of the anima will require around 54k tomes for just half the parts required to make it. On average a dungeon giving 100-200 tomes meaning a few hundred dungeon runs as opposed to few dozen raid runs till learned the fight, unless that static is made up of really bad players constantly failing past that in which case maybe re-evaluating the party composition is perhaps in order. But I am certain that the huge grind for relics of the past and anima's of today was done the way it was to pander to the raiding communities concerns for the most part.

I doubt it went like that, cause relic has never being really an alternative considering the ratio of time investment - reward. It wasn`t designed like that, they wanted to make it look like it, but it really isn`t. For example, there is always a tome-primal weapon that is a much more realistic alternative to start the static/raiding process towards the real high end weapon. While the relic, even if it ends up being better than said tome-primal weapon, it cost so much time, that is much better to learn and progress through raids with a bit lower DPS weapon than invest it on a booring grind.
Relic has never been an alternative. Is just another testimony of this game developers fear of players "burning" content too fast. They want their content to last a lot, as "irrelevant" as it might be (even chocobo races are a grind... seriously), they care just after that if their content is fun or interesting.
I just finished my relic to 230 and I did it all rather casually. i did my daily roulettes (all of them), did a few dungeons here and there with some friends, did some hunt marks, the burnout comes from trying to slam it all down in a day or two, my best advice is to just relax and it'll come faster than you'd think.

How many raiders having AS8 down and their weapon?!I think you were right about the Dev1 part but not the Dev2 part. The Dev2 part I think went more along the lines of...great idea but if we give them something equal to the raid weapons then the raiders will whine and complain so let's make it take longer than forming a static and learning a fight. Furthermore, special in FFXIV a "weapon" doesnt help much to clear the content, we have 10+ pieces...
The main point from raiders is that they like something to show what no other can get.
Didn't read the whole thread but I thought I'd share these tips I wrote for my FC people after finishing mine:
Beastman quests: If you have previously ranked Amaljaa, Sylph, Kobold and Sahagin reputation high enough to buy items with those, do those daily. If not, it's probably worth it to do Vanu and Vath quests instead, since you can get relic item currency from those right away without any reputation requirements (this is what I did). If you do Vanu and Vath quests daily, you'll get 2 items every 6 days (not counting rank-ups which let you do 3 additional quests for that day).
Poetics farm: For poetics, daily main scenario roulette gives you at least 140 poetics (more if there's a new player) and level 50 roulette done on a level 60 job gives you 120-300 poetics (depending on the dungeon and if there's a new player). It's worth doing both every day. Other than that, the fastest way to farm poetics seems to be queueing for Shiva hard as a tank or healer (for fast queues), since the fight is really fast and it can give you 90 poetics per run if there's a new player. Some other trials give same amount of poetics as well but Shiva seems to be the fastest. Also, Keeper of the Lake, Amdapor Keep hard and Wanderer's Palace hard give you 100 poetics per run, 200 if there's a new player, so those can be an alternative if you need a change. Lastly, poetics can be farmed from hunts: A ranks give 30 poetics and S ranks give 100 poetics each (you can also buy two of the relic items, bones and seeds, with 1k allied seals per piece).
Esoterics farm: Esoterics I didn't really have to farm since you get those from most of the stuff you do in game anyway. Expert roulette gives at least 140 esoterics (more if there's a new player), level 60 roulette gives at least 150 esoterics, and trials roulette gives at least 60 esoterics. Doing nothing but these will get you 1 item for every 2 days without any bonuses, but of course you also get them for running Void Ark, Midas etc.
Alexander farm: Floor 1 Alexander farm party with 1 tank and 1 healer is definitely the fastest way to get Unidentifiable bones. Each run takes less than 5 minutes so if everything goes well you'll get 1 item in 50 minutes tops. So it's worth joining a PF group for this every time you see one and even forming your own (good idea to team up with other FC people who also need it).
