Just thats not how market board is working...
To make decent money you need to stay online the whole day and adjust your pricing on a fixed period of time... I mostly look between dungeons.
To make it even worse, your calculation is wrong because the second set you cant sell for same price!
I have seen so many frustration because collecting a ton just to see you were too late and having now hell of a trash...
True, even 1 gil is profit and you may get millions of gil when selling millions of materials, but the time needed to collect that stuff is not worth the effort...

Edit: If you talk from retainers, well, there we have big bad RNG again... istn the first time i get from my BiS retainer just a "Malm Kelp"

Feel free to take or leave my advice. This is the only way I have made gil ever and I am currently sitting on 11 million gil and have spent 5.5 million gil 2x on SMN/SCH relic crafting pieces in the past few months and regularly purchase potions and food for raids.

The gil made from retainers is entirely RNG based, but if you keep sending out on quick ventures, there are decent chances you'll make decent money. The equipment sells for OK amounts, and once in awhile you get a rare crafting mat (i.e. Vortex Feather) or a popular housing piece that sells well.

To make it even worse, your calculation is wrong because the second set you cant sell for same prize!
I don't understand what you are saying here. I assume you mean price instead of prize, but beyond that - what calculation and second set of what?

Lets say you get on day one 10 Malm Kelp and sell it for 5 gil, the next day you get just 3 Malm Kelp but cant sell it for the same 5 gil...

Just vendor that crap, my general rule of thumb is don't sell stuff worth less than 1k gil.

Another way to make some money is to do beast tribes and sell the materia IV

I made roughly 8 mil in the last 2-3 weeks just selling mats from dragonskin maps and from running dungeons. All depends on the demand for the items you try to sell.

I guess I am misunderstanding you. That was an example that the market fluctuates? I already know this, as eluded to when I said, "The demand for eikon mats has greatly reduced though, so it's not quite as good for gil any more."

Market fluctuations happen and you're making a very definitive statement for something that isn't quite so cut and dry. Yes you can get 10 Malm Kelp and sell it for 5 gil but it isn't a hard and fast rule that the next day you can't sell those 3 Malm Kelp for 5 gil. They might be worth 1 gil if the market becomes saturated and you drove your own price down, they might be worth 5 gil if a balance has been reached for that item, or they might be worth 100 gil if there's not a lot of people selling Malm Kelp and someone is in desperate need of it.

nobody is arguing or making statements like this. Just simply stating that the grind for some portions is increased greatly for those without loads of free time which in turn makes the length of time to complete the weapon much greater often causing people to fall one, if not more, stages behind and eventually it gets so outdated that it becomes a question of why should it even be finished. Even 10 of each UI would have been enough. It's not a matter of being a casual or banging your head against the wall for weeks in savage...the reward just does not match the amount of work (grind) for a lot of people by the time they finish it. It becomes worse when they put "optional" content in the game and then make it a crucial part of something later...so if you didn't do that optional part, you're are hindered in progress for something else.

Dev1: Hey, i have this cool idea, lets make a quest line that makes your weapon grow, lets you customize its stats and is somewhat powerfull enough but no replacement for the very high end weapons, lets add a few very cool NPCs and lets make ultimately, the weapon itself a new character, giving players the chance to experience a good story, nice characters, have sense of progression and also some level of customization all at once!

Dev2: Thats an amazing idea! now lets implement that, but first lets put a massive timesink on it to make it the biggest chore in the whole game so make sure that 90% of the players don`t even bother and the remaining 10% is so pissed at the end of the process that any of those good ideas like the story, characters and customization are irrelevant.

    How relic quest was designed.
