I'm having a hard time selling stuff

I've been trying to sell a bunch of stuff on the market board in order to make money to fund my crafting. I've usually been selling crafting mats. When I do try to sell stuff it never sells, and when I check back theirs usually about 10 people who've undercut me. I've noticed that this has happened with almost all the items I've put up for sale. How do I stop this?

Lower the price or find something else to sell.

It depends on the crafting mats you are selling. Some lower level crafting mats are needed like crazy for even level 60 recipes.
Before deciding what to sell, I would recommend looking at the sales history for each item you want to sell (if you aren't doing this already).
If the entire sales history is just in the past 1 or 2 days, then the item is selling very fast. If the sales history goes back weeks or months, I wouldn't bother trying to sell the items.

When the counter refreshes for Red Scrips is a good time to try to sell items because everyone will be crafting to get their weekly quota done.

Also, sell in reasonable quantities, and you'll sell faster than those undercutting you. Singles may fly off the shelf, or people could buy several stacks at a time.

A friend just last week needed 1 Blue Coral for some recipe. There were 5 stacks up on the MB, the smallest was more than 60 items.

Until 3.3 launches the markets are sort of wonky. People are spending less, and are saving gil to potentially pay for a house (new housing district or when a house opens in the old districts). And others are probably taking a break from the game until the patch hits (plus Overwatch just came out). Between those three potential factors I've noticed the markets have become stagnant. People are gathering and selling more items (resulting in the markets crashing), and at the same time. The amount of sales has stayed the same (or has slightly decreased). When 3.3 launches expect the markets to become re-invigorated as people shift their focus and return to the game.

I just met someone who was able to make a huge amount of gil in about a week, I'm talking millions and millions of gil. The person wasn't a 2 star crafter then and no they didn't buy gil. How can someone make all that money that fast? Anybody have any tips for making money in this game?

I know that miner and bot bring in a lot of Gil for me. But the markets have slowed down on my server.

I'm aware of that, they've brought a lot of gil in for me too, but this guy didn't have any gatherers leveled past 15. I've been able to sell my materials just fine, but I'm having trouble selling tools and gear. Those seem to always sit on the market forever.

He was probably playing the market. Buy low, sell high.

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

Diversify, don't gravitate around 1-10 items if you're planning n making a few mil per week. I dabble in over 1,000 different items at any given time. Make a mil a day. Zero crafting or gathering classes. It's all so streamline now I don't even have to try/camp items anymore. I see a good deal, I buy it, and remark it. Esp now that I've been prepping for 3.3 launch. - 8 retainers per character, 5 characters total. 8 lvl 60 ilvl 200-210 hunter retainers. Plus I play the MB, do battle leve's for gear (when I'm bored), or I buy treasure maps off the MB (when I'm bored and people have flooded the market/crashed the prices of maps).
