they can't remove the G9 coverings because we actaully need them for breeding. back then when you retired your first chocobo the tutorial text has explained that...

it is more likely that the the child will get the stats of the parent with the lower pedigree. so if you breed a G9 together with a G8 it is more likely to get the stats from the G8 for the child. so, if you have a G9 chocobo with good, but not perfect stats, and want to further increase them, you need a G9 covering because G9 + G9 are equal. if you use a G8 you have a high chance to lose the stats from your good G9 chocobo.
