I dont think it matters too much if you overmeld you should be able to raid at least a little.
You 'May' have some trouble with raiding. I have hq220 and 210 esoteric lance on DRG and im i219 i think. I can do anything so far and im not even using materia at all yet. I havent attempted any Alex yet though.(im pacing myself)

Absolutely! I tend to ask myself "What were they thinking?" when i speak of tomes and scrips and timed content in general. Of course i know the answer($$$). xD

If they made it where gil was king for gear at endgame, then I'd expect over inflated prices followed RMT

They could always make the end game gear NPC shop items like the tomes gear but just cost gil instead and people who would buy gil are not good reasons to make a game a certain way. Also the gil gear didnt have to be king but equal. they could sell tome gear and make it obtainable through tomes as well as gil for multiple options. They have the seals too.. for hunts and some older tome gear but its not up to date with current end game gear. So this eliminated the options for up to date players.

I think that this game, if anything, seriously LACKS a gear grind. I mean...what can you really do to progress your character outside of your Square Enix-allotted "fun time"? Grind for tomes? Whoops, you hit your 450 for the week. Story mode Midas/24-mans? Might as well log out once you've got your weekly drop (which isn't even the "best" gear you can get anyway, lol). Savage raids? Same weekly lockout, no matter how skilled you and your group are! Sub-par crafted gear? Shiiiiiiiet, even THAT'S gated by weekly things!

If you want to argue that 2-dungeon DEXR is boring as sin, I won't deny it, but that's hardly the definition of a "grind". You log in, spend 20-30 minutes on it, then log out.

I try to look at the DEXR runs as chances at more then just the Lore, and that makes them go down far easier.

I collect Minions and TT cards so each run is a chance to get them all from the new DEXR dungeons. It's worked out pretty well, except for 1 this time around (Morpho I'm looking at YOU! *grumble seen it once...*) so far. So that is always an added bonus.

I can also greed on the normal drops to turn them into the GC, and then into ventures to make Gil as I go too.

Sometimes I get a great run with folks, and it's fun too, or do it with FC mates which always is a plus.

I just try to see it as more then my Lore chore.

You can do A5S if you're a good DRG (beating the A5S dummy) and get some melds (you probably need the Seph weapon as well)...but unless you are really good, that's all you can do with your gear. Meld it (properly) and get the Seph weapon or Lore weapon and you could possibly do A6S if you're good (beat dummy and pass HP and mechanics checks). Beyond that...you'd have to be top-tier and definitely get better gear

Allagan Tomestones tied of grind new ideas thread to get them.
Make them craftable? It doesn't have to be easy, or the mats super easy to get (they should at least be able to be gathered though, and not only by running instances, which would defeat the purpose of my idea), but it could really smooth out the grind some if you aren't railroaded into The One True Way of getting tomes. Makes the end-game less boring.

    +1

the devs could add special mats to the lv60 dungeons that allow to craft the tomestone gear as an alternative way to get them. Of course they would be still unique so the crafters don't overproduce them.
