I hope so. I do hope it's available to watch from the sidelines. Part of the fun of XI's was riding through and watching some poor fella shot down as he runs away. I always wanted to participate myself but never leveled up fast enough while it was still popular.
XIV's challenge will be to find a way to make it accessible to a variety of people while offering enough rewards down the line to make it relevant in future expansions. D:
I was relieved to get confirmation that PvP will not be thrust on players who do not want to do it (meaning a PvP grind won't be required for obtaining useful PvE gear etc. I assume). Also that the Colosseum will be opened as one form is very welcome news.
I don't really care when it is introduced, but I was happy about this news.

Voldemort is pleased.
And yeeees. Thank God. I don't want to be forced into PVP as a requirement to something. They already discussed this before but they even said themselves XIV will be focused more on PVE. If they did put more focus on PVP all the classes would require a complete turn around and adjustments.

I wasn't too thrilled about this. I don't think PvP suits FFXIV very well, especially in its current state of class balance. It'd be archers everywhere, first shot wins.

Not if you can stun your opponent. :I
Not that it matters much, I'm sure it'll just be more fluff content for fun. PVP, in this game at least, should never be taken so seriously. It takes an archer a while to set up that 'one shot' and in the time it takes for that to happen a Conj or Thau could easily cast a debuff and start a chainspell.
PVP is quite different from PVE. It will of course be off balance but perhaps not in that way. :U XI had a problem with BLU and SAM during PVP. It was quite horrible for a mage period.
im happy about the news also. but i disagree with ur asumption. vanity items and gear that is comparable to pve gear will not give pvpers a advantage or force pvers to do pvp. pvp reward do nothing besides make this part of the game more entertaining. that is what we all play games for.I was relieved to get confirmation that PvP will not be thrust on players who do not want to do it (meaning a PvP grind won't be required for obtaining useful PvE gear etc. I assume). i realy hope they add duels or some sort also. we all know the pvp will be unbalanced but if they take the same aproch they took in ffxi. witch they proly will. they will seperate the damage scale in pvp so it will not effect pve @ all. so i dont see why peeps would worry about this SE in my opinion had the best system for keeping the 2 elements seperate. they just never took the time to balnce it, or give incentives for peeps to do it. it was accualy work to try to have fun doing pvp at times. i rember standing in town begging peeps for hours to come do balista. but with no real reason to do it and no rewards. it eventualy died off and i found other games where i clicked a button and i was in a group with 20 other peeps who wants to pvp. SE needs a system like this. instanced pvp where only peeps who want to join can, and dont have to wait hours for they matches to start. this is not fun waiting around for hours hoping u can pvp is not fun. if anything a simple duel system would fix this and make pvp more apeeling. and give me and my friends somthing to do when we get bored of the npc grind. i loved ffxi played it for 5 yeared untill the pvp died. then i had to move on to other games that was willing to please my style of play. i like to do both pvp and pve, and i have played all ff games. i realy hope they put effort into accualy keeping the pvp interesting instead of letting it die off like they did in ffxi. brenner was crap. diora was imposible to do after the real balistas died and u couldnt obtain anymore points to make a match. all 3 vers of pvp was to hard to participate in. the dumb long quest to be able to pvp was dumb and shoulda been removed. or least changed so u didnt have to do it for the licence. i apoligize for all this ranting but looking back @ ffxi just making olf feeling come back. im srry if this offends some of the ff fans that dont want pvp. im just trolling along forums figured ide put in my 2 cents why i pray for more pvp info to come out.
I hope it takes a very very long time for them to impliment PvP. As that will be the point in which the game will see class after class get hosed, in the name of balancing. Never fails, happens in every MMO when they add PvP some time after launch. Abilities always work differently against player characters then they do in ame mob npcs. PvPers will cry foul WHEN one class has an ability or two that is OP in PvP. They will foolishly nerf it for the sake of the PvPers who cry all over the forums. Now the OP PvP spells that were decent to good PvE spells, will be nerfed and useless PvE.
I have never seen an MMO that had PvP introduced sometime after launch that did not ruin PvE.
