I'd be happy if I can just have the Highlanders ponytail hairstyle.
But yeah, I feel there should be endless hairstyles from which to choose from AND customize.

Your logic makes no sense.
Group x has 10 hairstyles to choose from.
Group y has a different 10 hairstyles to choose from.
Group z has access to all 20 hairstyles.
The odds of a group x member having the same hairstyle as another group x member are 1:10.
The odds of a group y member having the same hairstyle as another group y member are 1:10.
The odds of a group z member having the same hairstyle as another group z member are 1:20.
It's inane to think that opening up all hairstyles to all races will make everyone look samey.
I don't think people are asking to take away people's individual name's. They merely want more options to style their hair. And taking from other races options would be more cost effective then waiting a few months for 1 or 2 new ones. Furthermore it gets even more skewed when you factor any female can don Minfilia's/Lightnings hairstyle and any male can don Snow Villiers. Isn't that taking away from those characters individuality?
Race and gender locks are fine as long as you have the same amount of options as some one else. I would prefer they make something new (either for all, or a set number per race/gender) rather than make what little racial aesthetic flavour we have be diminished further.

I like to have a tomboyish look though. I always been a tomboy in real life so i like my character looks to reflect the way i am.
Would be happy to get more short hairstyles.
No, he's just bitter over the fact that when he apparently asked over a year ago for facial hair he was told they were too busy with hairstyles which were more in demand. So now he's pretending his reasoning has anything to do with caring about racial individuality, when he's actually just taking out his frustrations against people who want more hair options.
I have my doubts that there's going to be much in the way of 'equality' in this game when it comes to character creation options. A lot of the 'new' hairstyles that are available for both genders end up looking very androgynous or feminine as a direct consequence of being designed to fit both genders and numerous different playable races. Then there's the fact that the Minfilia outfit on the cash shop comes with an exclusive hairstyle for women - which is fine because it'd look ridiculous on male characters - but the male equivalent, Cid's outfit, doesn't come with either his hair or beard despite there being quite a lot of people expressing a desire for some new facial hair options for male characters.
Then there's the push to make gender locked dresses available to male characters as well...which doesn't really do a whole lot to bring about 'equality' since it doesn't solve the issue of a lot of new gear being designed quite obviously to fit women first and foremost.
I reckon the whole androgynous or feminine look is a reflection of how males are in countries like Japan and Korea. In a way it kinda makes sense that this image is being reflected to this game. While Japan is still hush hush with homosexulity and transsexuality, they are pretty oke with androgynous or feminine look, because this is a look that alot of the young adult idols are showing.
Then there is the whole cost of making a hairstyle and if its cheaper to make 1 hairstyle that fit both genders, then its no suprise that they would go for a more feminine hairstyle. The same can also be said for shared gear. In the end its more acceptable for females to have masculine traits then males having feminine traits and this is probably why they are OKE with females having male outfits, but not males having female outfits.
I do agree with you that Cid"s armour should have included his hairstyle and beard, but I think they might have left those out, because Cid is still using the same hairstyle and beard. It would not suprise me if we see Cid with a new outfit in 3.3 or 3.4.
