Why was Alphinaud more worried about helping Estinine, a man he knows nothing of, over looking for any way possible to help Minfilia and seemingly the rest of the Scions he nearly destroyed?

His involvement with the scions was mainly due to him following his grandfather's footsteps, and even then he was rarely directly acting with them. So more like coworkers in another department of the same company. It wasn't until he tried finding them, that he actually really traveled with them. After the loss of his grandfather, his male rolemodel, the instinct is to find a replacement. One that we see is Haurchefant, the next would be Estinien, whom traveled with him through the unknown lands and was the primary fighter/protector of the group when the Warrior [Primal] of Light is not present, and there is a chance to save Estinien.
