I think they look out of place as they've ported stuff with an anime aesthetic strait into a game which has a more realistic aesthetic

That's what we refer to as dogma.
Dogma, as it applies to fiction, is know as canon. And canon demarcates the limits of a given fictional reality, forming an anchor to reader's comprehension of that universe.
If you start hamfisting malapropos concepts, objects, and entities from one piece of media into another it interferes with the construction of a coherent narrative, and causes a breakdown of immersion; more so if those things are rendered in a fashion vastly disparate from the rest of the game, extant in a vacuum. Pulsework knights, FFXII mimics, the crocs, etc. those things definitely exist in the game because NPCs acknowledge them; we're even contracted to cull them by questgivers. But unless Youkai Watch lore becomes part of FFXIV canon (which I sincerely hope it isn't) then all these YW items are merely nonsensical, incongruous, immersion-shattering eyesores.
Because this people thing that what they said should be done. I like this things. THis are simply events to get glamour items. Is not related with story or something like that. It is not like the cute cats will defeat Nidhogg and save Eorea.
Let' people enjoy it. If someone doesn't like, just don't participe in the event. It is very simple.
For me is ok, Nyan :3
These few pieces of glamour gear will totally ruin the lore because they are not MATURE and SERIOUS for MATURE and SERIOUS people such as themselves...
Anyway, did the prevision crossover seasonal events have any impact on the actual main story? No
Will this one have? No
It'll just be another round of "they came from another world trough some rift in the void"
(I'd personally find all the Allagan stuff with its blinking neon lights more jarring and out of place anyway)
IKR. Ruining the immersion of shades+afros, giant chocobo helmets, rapidly spinning rocket turtles and every-occasion-bikinis
I think that part of the concerns is that visually they don't seem to mesh.
It is like they need 1 more set of shade/texture filters on them or something.
You're missing the point, entirely.
It's like watching game of thrones, and people fight with donald duck themed swords. Or imagine 2 armies clashing and everyone shouting YOLOOOOO; YASS QUEEN, SHAADE.
Those machines aren't out of place - old civilizations with machines, is common theme in most FF games (actually can't think of a single FF game without machines) Garlemald military is almost entirely based on allagh tech. Binding Coil is all machine, alexander is all machine, void ark is all machine, azys is a huge floating mechanical fortress! putting some machine from another FF game, into this FF game, isn't "out of place"
Using the term 'haters' just negates your argument outright as far as I'm concerned. From what I've seen quite a few people are expressing their concerns because this sort of thing is becoming more and more common. When this sort of 'silly stuff' was confined to a specific set of quests - such as Hildibrand - it wasn't so bad. People are growing wary, however, because it's happening more often and it's a very jarring contrast to the rest of the game and general atmosphere/sense of immersion.I do think it's silly, cause the haters saying it's out of place are just assuming and making up their own lore. I honestly see Yokai Watch as an entity that could possibly live anywhere and it's the watch that lets people see them. This means that if the watch were to exist in some form in the world of XIV then we would see those creatures. That's why I"m like, what is the big deal, I really think people complaining are pretty much implying that the world can only work one way and everything on Earth is illogical because it doesn't all look the same or follow the same logic.
It's actually worse that they're not story related. You have these curiously simple and cartoonish phong-shaded mounts/minions/items which juxtapose terribly with the comparatively detailed and cohesive high-fantasy backdrop of XIV. This stuff looks alien, and it clearly doesn't belong.
And certainly I can opt-out of participating in the YW event, but this is an MMO: other people wont, and if they then choose to equip these hideous things I am yet -against my will- confronted by them; them merely existing compromises immersion and hampers the experience for anyone concerned with a cohesive art style. Imagine a new player getting dumped into Eorzea after character creation and the open cinematics, only to see another player running along carrying an oversized cartoon dildo with a big puppy face decal- the fuck are they supposed to think about the rest of the game from that image?
This is not what people are arguing at all and it seriously gets on my tits when people use strawman arguments to diminish genuine issues. This concerns "artistic integrity", in every possible interpretation of that phrase. The YW items are an unprecedented stain on this game's aesthetics and it concerns me that this event might pave the way for FFXIV turning into another S4 League, Team Fortress 2, or TERA.
Also regardless of how you feel about the appearance of Allagan engineering those designs have been cemented as part of the game world, and were created precisely with the intent of appearing extraterrestrial.

I don't have a problem with machines being in Final Fantasy games. You're missing the point, entirely.

It's like you just read the title of the thread saw the dreadnought and pulsework knight and imediately responded thinking I was talking about machines being out of place in Final Fantasy? wtf? o_o I'll give you the tl;dr version
It's where they come from, Final Fantasy XIII and how they're a pretty big deal in that game yet show up in XIV.
Again, Yokai-Watch stuff is purely cosmetic, doesn't mean you have to like it but it's not going to do any harm to the game, Dragon Quest got by fine, Lightning's PSYCOM uniform is fine, hell I think someone pointed out to me that some enemies are also ripped from Star Ocean.
