Those things are thematically silly, but the design of the aforementioned bikinis and chocobo suits are at least congruent with the world. eg. if you go to Camp Tranquil you can see NPCs in those same swimsuits, because these things exist and the characters clearly acknowledge them.
Now I'm not fond of particle effects, and the overly festooned weapons and mounts XIV already has, but this Youkai Watch stuff is different; they're designed, modeled and textured disparately to the rest of FFXIV's assets. Presumably because they were prepared offsite by Level-5 and SE was paid a sum to implement them, but that's besides the point. Details such as this make your brain itch: it's unsettling, and it erodes the player's sense of immersion. Moreover it indicates a lack of conviction on the part of the developers, for permitting the inclusion of objects so-far divorced from the game's established aesthetic
