I don't see how you can make this argument when there's literally more than twice as many DPS classes as there are tanks or healers. I don't see how there's any more diversity needed; we already have caster, ranged physical, and 3 very different melee.
It's quite a reasonable request I think. I've previously asked that people consider the timing of release for field zones also.
I suppose one of the benefits to bunching all of the jobs and fields zones into a single date is because they need people to see the value in buying an expansion, so it must be a lot more special than the free patches which are themselves quite generous. It's harder to get people excited about an expansion if some of its key components are staggered out across an 18-24 month patch series.
If they can find some else to shuffle in there to add value to the day one expansion offering then I'd love to see jobs at more regular intervals.
Erm bard mech ninja are aupport maybe xD?
Paladin / warrior / dark. = tanks
Astro / white mage / scholar = healers
Blackmage /summoner = range dps
Dragoon / monk = melee dps
Ninja = melee support
Bard/mech = range support
Ninja gives a lot of supporting buffs be it damage/emity/silence/stun/tp regen
Mech gives a lot of supporting buffs be it damage/stun/silence/bind/reduce damage tp/mp regen
Bard gives a lot of supporting buffs be it damage/silence/bind/ mp/ tp regen
So technically we have 3 tanks 3 healer 4 dps 3 support
But tbh if they do make a job i rather them take there time with it and not set it as a priority
Would it be nice to have a new job? YES
Is it needed in the game ? NO
I wish players stop requesting new jobs and let the development team release a job when they feel its a right time to make a new job
I mean there is A LOT of work that goes into making a job like someone have pointed out already in this topic and it requires A LOT of resources to do which the resources could of been spent else where like NEW PATCHES or STORY or EXPANSIONS etc
Let see if anyone here can make a new job in 6 months this includes, Animations, weapon art, armor art, skill art, mechanics, lighting, effects, sounds, buffs, debuffs, pvp skills, cross class skills, and this is just from my own basic knowledge >.> its not easy u know
It was one thing I enjoyed from FFXI was multiple jobs being released each expansion. Gave people of different playstyles something to look forward to.
Sadly they have made a statement back when 3.0 was released that their New Job release plan will be 2 Jobs per Expansion now as Yoshi-P said creating 3 Jobs was hard enough for 3.0 Expansion release.
Of course we saw the result of that with machinist as back when they first announced Machinist they had a more complicated mechanic planned for Machinist involving different Gun modifications and Ammo was going to be something that provide unique effects instead of what we got now.
This basically just reinforces my point. We already have a large selection of DPS jobs available that cover a wide variety of playstyles and don't really need more. The person I quoted was saying that we don't need any more tanks and healers because we have 3 of each and that's enough variety, but we have even more DPS so I don't see how that's anything even remotely resembling a valid argument. It's not a matter of getting classes because we need them, but rather because SE wants to introduce them.
With that said, if we get a DPS class without a tank or healer to go with it, the queues are going to explode just like with NIN.
3 tanks, 3 healers, 3 melee, 2 ranged physical, 2 ranged magical...
Since it's unlikely we get three new jobs, where would you put in new jobs to increase diversity? The obvious places I feel would be ranged physical and ranged magical.
Adding two ranged jobs feels out of place though, so chances are we get one melee and one ranged (physical or magical) in this expansion. Maybe a tank or healer and additional ranged in the one after... etc.
With that breakdown into range dps, melee dps, range support and melee support, it's even more likely we get dps/support only this time and not the whole tank/healer/dps trio.Erm bard mech ninja are aupport maybe xD?

Your count is off. SMN/SCH was added in 2.0. They weren't in during 1.0 at all. So techinally speaking we've gotten 6 new jobs.
