Town Airships are completely useless, Inns semi useless

    TOWN AIRSHIPS

Because of the fact that EVERY town in the game has Aetherytes, the airships are completely useless. While they probably won't remove the ability to teleporting to towns, and since Anima for teleporting probably won't return from 1.0, there should be some sort of benefit to using the airships.
Perhaps add actual flight times like FFXI had and allow fishers to sky fish? Random FATE attacks that drop special items?

    INNS

Since we now get rested EXP outside of the inn rooms (yea I know they changed that long ago), the inn rooms really only serve a purpose to have armoire, haircuts, and cut scenes for people that don't have a house or FC house.
They really should give it more use. In 1.0 if we logged out in the Inn, sometimes we got a special cut scene upon coming back into the game. Perhaps even make it so you don't get rested EXP while in towns, only in a housing ward or in the Inn room? They were a great idea that the devs just really destroyed.

I'd like to see these two items have some sort of better use.

I used the airships extensively as a newbie to save gil. *shrug* Teleporting all over the place gets expensive.

As for Inn rooms, we should probably wait to see what happens with the apartment style housing first.

As an aside, you can bypass the 1000 character limit by editing your original post.

Don't you think this would be a thread better served by the General Forum, and not the Lore Forum?

This happened once, literally only once. It was a really cool thing having a nightmare about the Battle of Carteneau but the only recurring benefit to logging out in inn rooms was sometimes finding a cookie under your pillow when you woke up. Or an egg.

(I don't remember if rested exp was only in inn rooms or not, but I digress)

Don't you think it's something they could have expanded upon, though? Plus there was also the Hildibrand quest that started from waking up in the Inn IIRC...

Granted, I don't think that should be Inn exclusive... I'd love a reason to log out in my Private Rooms bed as well... But they could easily add more cutscenes in the same manner... Cleared Tam Tara Hard Mode? Enjoy logging in to some Edda themed nightmare fuel. Done some recent death centric quests? Enjoy waking up to some feels.

I was thinking that, but eh, I really wish they're reintroduce going to bed to log out and having the occasional surprise when I log back in.

With the Challenge Log handing out thousands of Gil for nothing, I don't think this is as relevant these days... The removal of physical Airship and Boat rides will always irk me... If I want to get somewhere instantly I'll teleport, Airships and Boats were always the scenic route IMO... Would also be nice for Fishing as well... XI had actual Airship rides with nothing to do on them, XIV has Skyfishing to slap on board...

Yeah, I mean, I don't disagree with the idea of having cinematic dreams when logging in after logging out in a bed or even finding the boiled egg / biscuits under your pillow--my intent was to remind people it really wasn't this huge recurring theme in 1.0; there was only one cutscene. (If what you say is right about Hildibrand, two, but I don't personally recall so!) It was a very memorable moment and well done (and something I wouldn't be opposed to them repeating) but it was just that-- a singular moment.

Here's the cutscene in question. I seem to remember it being a case of getting to a point in the quest, logging out at the bed, logging back in to that cutscene. If that wasn't the case... Well, it should have been... That's a really great way to shake up the same tired quest chain template...

The main difficulty with such a mechanic is that it relies on people logging out at beds anyway, which... Isn't the case anymore... If this was how 3.3 Hildibrand quests kicked off, it would be a case of people looking up how to start it and potentially being annoyed by it. If we were all already logging out at the bed for reasons though? We'd log back in on 3.3 for a nice surprise from Hildibrand, and it would be a great surprise. If we had a reason to log out at beds this would potentially work, but then run into another problem... There is no reason Inns should have some innate bonus over player homes in that regard, but for Hildibrand to surprise us in the morning? That is a cutscene that likely cannot work in player homes, because they're completely customizable... A nightmare works well enough because it doesn't need to take place in your room, but Hildibrand would have to be in the static Inn rooms, and someone with their own private home is unlikely to ever use them... They could preface the quest with "Stick around this Inn and I'll get back to you" but that somewhat takes away from the surprise...

Now that I think about it, Hildibrand was originally introduced with the Inn rooms, wasn't he? Didn't those early quests involve them as well? I seem to remember the Limsa one being about a weapons thief at the Inn there?

Ah, yes the Gauwyn the Gannet case. Going back through Gamerescape's archives, parts of that quest chain actually involved you going to bed and logging out with the flyer in your inventory, which triggered the cutscene & continued the questline. However, the amount of prep work to trigger this specific scene, like you said sort of takes away from the surprise (you'd have to be trying to trigger it to get it anyway) which doesn't really make it much different than any other cutscene trigger.

You're also right about him being in every Inn unlock quest (all 3 of which were necessary for further shenanigans). I don't remember much but the Limsa one was totally about Sweetnix accidentally stealing ink. The weapons thief was the Gauwyn case.

I use the Airships and boats to save gil. While its not much each time it adds up over time. Now while gil isn't hard to get if your trying to save up for something big, like housing that extra savings can help. I rarely teleport unless the port is under 100 gil or Im in a rush in which case I'll use a Aetheryte token.

I would like an Airship stop in Ishgard.
