But what if you're holding a card when you attune? I never take the lazy route, as that card could be vital.

Edited previous post with a broader explanation.
Serious question: Does this scenario happen often with you?
Honestly, this situation rarely happens for me, and I don't think it comes up often unless your strategy is to plan a draw immediately before attunement.
I started ast pvp a few weeks ago, and honestly, attunement usage seems very strategic. If I get caught being surprised by a burst and attempt to react with attunement, by the time the action registers, I'm already low on health. In this situation, the only thing attunement provided me was a few seconds to hopefully get Essential Dignity off of cooldown by the time attunement ends.
With that being said, I'm finding more usage from attunement trying to react more preemptively, looking at the obvious signs of the enemy popping cooldowns and targetting me. In this situation, by the time I pop attunement, I'm at a comfortable life level and the enemy successfully wasted their buffed attacks on me.
When looking at attunement usage in this way, I honestly can't recall an instance where I ever popped attunement with a card buff drawn. Card buffs are usually taken care of because everything was planned accordingly. When I realized this, I thought hey, this seems perfectly ok to just combine the two and move an extra button in the slot.
If you could provide your thoughts, I'd appreciate it. As someone newer to the pvp side of xiv and with as little discussion of it as it is, any feedback from a more experienced pvper is both helpful and appreciated.

Yes. I draw on CD. Literally on CD. Like a religion. There is a good chance I may draw a card, then need to immediately attune. After I get out of attunement, that balance/bole/ewer could very well decide life or death.
Here's a good example of a situation I get in every now and again:
Getting focused, draw bole, immediately attune, end attunement early, cast essential dignity + bole for when they get back on me.
I'd say, in my opinion, it's better for a newer PVPer to not take short cuts, and do it the most efficient way up front. It will be easier in the long run, though more difficult at the start (if button bloat is a challenge for you.)

I don't disagree with this at all, but hopefully you can comment on my response just so I get a better idea of best actions to take.
Obviously the downside to attunement is that you can't do any actions while it's in effect. If you're getting focused and draw bole, do you find it best to save it for yourself after attunement? Currently I would throw it on the dps that I believe they'd switch to while I'm invulnerable. I think delaying my attunement by a quarter second to buff a party member while I'm inactive is a net gain, so long as I think it won't kill me. I can't do anything during it, after all. Or...do you find in the upper tier of pvp that they decide to stick on you rather than switch?
If you are banking on them sticking on you, do you find it a net gain to save the bole afterwards, or pop it beforehand on yourself? In this situation, would you rather utilize the full effect of bole afterwards and delay your next card draw, or pop it, still get 15-20ish seconds of bole + another potential card draw during the game?

It depends on the situation, but as a general rule I'd say that fraction of a second spent delaying your Attunement could be the difference between life or death. I find that higher skilled players will switch off of me when I attune, with full knowledge that I will come out soon, and promptly switch back, so delaying the use of the card would be more optimal, as then I have a second to decide if I want to buff myself or another (for bole).
Although, what it boils down to is that what I've posted simply works for me. By all means, if you think it will be better for you to use the combined macro, I encourage you to try it out.
Thanks for your thoughts. I've tried it out and it's been working fine, but I think after this talk it's worth separating the two for the long run like you've said. Sure, it's a small change in effectiveness, but that's probably a couple more wins in my future compared to if I stuck to my old method. It depends on the situation, but as a general rule I'd say that fraction of a second spent delaying your Attunement could be the difference between life or death. I guess in general I have difficulty with having the proper mindset when it comes to cards. It's what defines our uniqueness and can apparently make or break games, but at the same time, I can't help but feel like they're inherently weak and barely make any difference unless they're boosted. Because of this, I tend to trash a lot of cards trying to fish for a good combo, potentially destroying my net gain from everything I throw away.
Cheers, Renault. Tuned into your stream once. Hopefully catch you again sometime in the near future.
