Interestingly enough (at least on Aether data center), I've noticed silver and gold players tend to be quite calm in matches and most of the rage I see comes from bronze players. Additionally, players I see raging aren't doing particularly well themselves when they go off on someone. It's common to blame nerdrage on a competitive internet environment, but I sometimes wonder if it's actually a kind of cognitive dissonance people use to defend their skill level if they lose tons of games.

I suppose the best analogy I can come up is the 0/4/0 mid in LoL who blames the jungler for his deaths. Edit: A better analogy might be from StarCraft II where it was common to flip out on someone after a game if they lost to a strategy they didn't find valid (cheesing was, and maybe still is, really rampant in that game).

I've never seen a pvp community that wasn't toxic, unless it was like a semi-dead Ragnarok Online private server where people were only being nice because there were so few pvpers to go around.

Yeah the toxicity can be super bad and frequent. I had a match where somebody told the healer to "burn in hell" the first time somebody on our team was KO'd. I'm sure the community is limiting its own growth by turning away a lot of new people who try to learn but feel it's not worth the harassment. It can be daunting to step into pvp for somebody who does not have a thick skin. Because Feast is a competitive ranked mode where seasonal prizes are awarded based on performance, it brings out the worst in bad people. I get mad or frustrated too sometimes, but I keep it to myself, I don't type out insults to people on the internet. People just need channel their anger into something else and not harass their teammates, as nothing good can come of it.

Maybe SE needs to add a Salty Baby network for people to complain about PVP matches in, instead of polluting group chat with insults and threats.

As a (USEast)dotes player, I find the flaming in this game pretty tame, but at the same time laughable. PvP is my favorite thing to do in the game, but I don't think it's truly competitive right now with the nearly 1HKO orange buttons, the wonky class balance and etc., At the end of the day it's just a game and unless folks are throwing on purpose, or have literally no idea what they're doing and are playing ranked anyway, there's not much call for hostility. I get tempers flare up, but there's a difference between terse "HEY KILL THE <class>!" and straight up toxicity.

You think Pvp in FFXIV is Toxic?

    Try playing League of Legends.

That'll show you what toxic really is.

I think player can be mad about reward also, loose too much make them away from the reward, but it's not a good reason.
I will certainly not get it, and everyone will not get it just the 100 first.
it's not a reason but nothing will stop some players to be toxic.

Them times where you kill 1 BR player, and he brings his whole family to try to kill you. Fun times though.

oh I'm absolutely vile. If you're doing damage that wouldn't even be acceptable in a 4-man dungeon then you're gonna hear it. I'd rather that person just quit PvP than waste other people's times. /shrug

Actually, my attitude here is worse. At least in LoL up until Plat if you AFK farm/push top lane with a FOTM broken champ you can carry 4 people with no brain. In the feast I'm at the mercy of 2 DPS players and sometimes a healer.
