Gonna take a stab here and say you button mashed through literally all of the story only stopping to watch cutscenes which confused you because you didn't actually know what was happening. Due to the fact that you probably, again, button mashed through /all/ of the story. Otherwise you'd for sure know who he was.

Somewhat correct, i generally skipped anything that was "quest dialogue" but if it was a fully skippable cutscene, no, i didnt, he just didnt leave an impression on me big enough to remember him, on top of the fact his face and clothes were generic clothes everyone wears

Going through again on an alt and paying a bit more attention to detail and i notice him more but hes still bland

He's much less bland if you have the japanese cutscenes and the japanese dialogue. He hits on your character a bit, says stuff like how it's warmer in his bed chambers. They made him much more bland in the Eng cutscenes. He also has a chapter dedicated outside of this game that talks about his backstory more. Haurchefant of the Silver Fuller.
