Personally my opinion is it does sound like a good idea in theory to interview strong pvpers. Ideally he'd want to interview people from different servers and data centers as well. It's a pretty big feat though when figuring out who to interview and making people believe you're credible enough to do said interview without bias, especially if all those interviews are coming from just Balmung/Aether.

I think he should do it if he wants though. It does sound like a fun little idea

Well, he's FROM that server. He selected people that are well known in the PVP community, which happens to be strongest on Aether data center, and the better players being from Gilgamesh and Balmung. Why wouldn't you want to interview the better and more popular players? I think it's unfair to tell the guy he should be interviewing other people...And then not give him suggestions? I'm from Balmung myself, and though I know several names of Gilgamesh players, I can say I don't know a single person from Zalera/Cactuar/Adamantoise that really stands out to me as being fantastic or well known.

I'm not trying to be conceited or rude, but it's just the truth. Gilgamesh and Balmung have more established PVP communities and therefore are home to some of the better and more well known players.

I think you're right. So I'll shed some more light. I have one character I play on Balmung server. So the main way I will learn about other players is from you guys. The community. Some people have caught on and said "I'd like to see some people from this server too." Luckily I have more ways to get in touch with players from multiple servers now. And that was always the plan, to have a healthy selection of players from classes they main, to the servers and data centres they are in. But my reach alone can only go so far. And I can only get a glimpse of other talent 1st hand in games that I partake in myself. So the biggest and best way to choose these players is by popular demand and for that I need all the support here on the forums I can possibly get.

So me listing names that I want to do is just a wish list. I can only confirm Jammy To and Straigus. Others I still need to think about who and ask them, they may even turn me down when I ask them. I plan to do as much as possible. That is why I will choose some people who aren't know but I feel so have something valid to share. So not everyone will be known, not everyone will have gold and above ranks but everyone will have something to share. I promise that.

So yes me being in Balmung does give Balmung players a direct link to me. This does not in anyway mean I won't be trying my best to get in touch with the rest of the community. So you cannot expect me to magically know all these different players in different servers only a couple days after having the idea. I'm not omnipresent. I'm going to need every bit of help I can get.

(Sorry for the delayed responses I was trying to post this reply almost instantly, but every time I post it says I have reached a daily limit.)

    Edit:

It would be very cool if I could choose by class, then have everyone suggest player names who play that class. Then I can pick the most suggested/demanded person. The only issue with that is I really would need as much people as possible to make suggestion. And for that.. well first they have to be positive with this all. And it's already hard for people to admit to saying they really respect another player of high skill. Or even say they are also interested to hear what another player has to say.

I have to say though no matter how it may look sometimes here on the forums. I get WAY more positive feedback overall than bad ones. And if you look at how much attention these posts have gotten already. Most of these people are lurkers who will probably will never speak but will support where they can anonymously.

    At least I hope so... ^^;

I can see why people are saying this is literally just a circle jerk. Surprised you can't, actually.

Though I have faith in the idea, I think a better idea would be to have the option out there and ask arbitrarily who WANTS to be interviewed instead of picking your specific favorites. That way no one can complain about not being interviewed or feel like they're valued less than anyone else. Pretty sure that's the main reason people are going to qq about the entire thing. I can definitely see why people are calling this a circle jerk, though. Season hasn't even started and you're already interested in interviewing people based on pre-season info. Maybe let the season roll first and see who really shows up.

It's based on more than preseason....it's based on thousands of old Fold matches. Do you not think skill from that translates?

Don't like interviews on players from Balmung/Gilga?
Simply interview people from your own server. Seriously, what's the point in sitting on someone's thread who has good intentions and calling him out for HIS choice in players based on HIS opinion in HIS interview.

To be fair, preseason is essentially the same with some changes to balancing (as of now, we'll probably see more effective scholars, less effective MCH, and more war of attrition in relation to healing/DRK changes).

If its a 1:1 talk, it only really becomes a circle jerk if both the interviewer and interviewee are relatable to each other, and well... both sides let it happen. If OP remains objective throughout, I don't see it becoming an issue. It's certainly different than interviewing a group of players as someone mentioned earlier.

Picking out players can also be rough, especially if they're outside of your servers or not your usual contact. There are a handful of players out there who are legitmately good with situational awareness and knowing the circumstances of a fight, it's just hard to point them out, especially if they're unsung heroes or don't use the OF/reddit, doubly so if it's a podcast (less so for Q&A text interviews, which are good at keeping things objective from one side and in regards to contacting people)

I did say it would be a pretty difficult feat to do cross server/ data center interviews. It's really hard for you to personally know who is good outside of where you actually play. One person said maybe have others pick who they'd like to see interviewed, that might be a good way to do it without making others feel you're being biased.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with you having a wish list or even them being from your home server. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, however, players outside of Balmung may feel like it's basically just an "interview people I like or am friends with" kind of thing.

And the only reason I really felt like it was a misstep is because if you hadn't have said your "wish list" it wouldn't even have been known they were all from your home server.

It's like gathering info on the entire country just from your city/town, yeah it's hard to go outside of being local, but if you don't it'll cause people outside of your area to question your credibility.

As for it being hard, you just have to be objective. If say you wait until a couple of weeks after season one starts you can check the rankings on lodestone and attempt to make cross world contacts, and even question others to see if they've fought someone and how strong they felt they were. Just give it some time and do some research and I'm sure if the players you interview at first are at least somewhat various then your feedback and reception will be much more positive.

Basically don't give up, research your players and your subject, let the season start up a bit, and don't give others a reason to question your credibility or assume you're biased.

also @Renault: I know you're not trying to come off as conceited or rude , no worries there I've been at the competitive thing for a long time, so I know exactly what you meant. You're right from what I can tell the pvp scene is heaviest on Aether , we do have some decent folks on Cactuar but I think most of the strong players are on Balmung/Gilgamesh. Usually strong and popular are about the same with competitive gaming, it's just when you start listing off names and they're all from the same place it can look kind of bad to others and look pretty biased, even though the idea wasn't meant that way. Hopefully the suggestions I did make just now will help a little bit. It's just a really hard thing to look objective due to the data centers and the lack of exposure of some players out there.

Basically I do agree with you, I was just pointing out why people are being so harsh right now.

Just do the jammy interview with his teammates involved for preseason interview since they imo are the strongest AETHER center 4v4 party afterwards save all other interviews for post season when the results are in since whoever will be in the those are SE acknowledged spots earned it(unless win trading becomes an issue)

Whether I choose, you choose or we choose by vote. I start now, tomorrow or after season starts. Some people will still be unhappy on who I choose to do and when I choose to do it. I’m at peace with this now. I cannot win here.

I want to bring helpful info onto the forums that I cannot provide myself. Garza why don't you post a guide or why have you not posted a guide, or a bunch of useful tips here for a job/class that you main for all to see? Don't you think that your input from playing the endless hours on here would be awesome help to anyone that goes out of there way to find it?

But you and I don't and have not for a number of reasons:

Maybe you don't have the time.
Maybe you don't feel you have much to share.
Maybe you feel you don't have the right.
    Maybe you don't care.
Maybe you just haven't thought about it.
Maybe you don't feel you don't have the credibility.
Maybe you don't feel it will be appreciated.
MAYBE you just haven't been asked to do it.

Point is we all could do this but we have our reasons why we don't yet some people do. Sometimes it's received well sometimes it's not. Well I felt like it would be nice to have some of this on here instead of the usual.

    This person is cheating.
    This needs to be nerfed.
    You're wrong, i'm right.
    You suck, I don't.

Garza I know you’re with me on this and I’m not attacking you. But the attitude some people have about this does baffle me, because if this goes as planned. We could all learn A LOT! And I love sharing and seeing people share. I tip my hat to it. I truly respect it and have no reason not to. The other day me and you was in a party, where you took the time out to explain the benefits of having pvp gear to another player who knew nothing. I was so proud of you, you don’t even know. Why don’t you post that info here? You assume everyone here knows already right? (Maybe it's one of the reasons above again). Well let me tell you people do come here to find out stuff. So people need to see the bigger picture and stop crying about silly things.

Just look at how many views this post has compared to the amount that reply. We have people who are interested in PVP guys. The amount of people that have said…

“New players should not be allowed to queue for 4v4 Feast without having learned or even tried 8v8 first.”

No that’s not cool. And it would not make you feel any better when a player lets you down in feast. New or not. Instead why not go out your way to give a tip or two. Would it not be cool if you could refer them to a helpful post atleast… here.. in the pvp section. Of our OFFICIAL forums. Instead of almost always finding a divided community.

@ Cynric Thank you for your reply. I thought I have been pretty clear on how I wish to choose people.

@ Proudwolf I only have planned for Jammy and Straigus. I'd love to do all his team members. This one is only going to be live because it was a spontaneous idea i had since he has a stream and a Team Speak channel we could use. As for Straigus I'd have to do that some other way. And only give a written transcript of what he said. Which is all I want anyway. The Live thing with Jammy is just something I can do since he has the means to do it and I had the idea.
