PSA: New adventurers can leave the Novice Network as they wish with /nastatus off

This was never really brought up in the patch notes for any updates with the mentor system, but if any new adventurers ask, it is nice to know for mentors.

New adventurers who do not want to be a part of the network can leave of their own accord with "/nastatus off" and they will be removed from the network and also lose their green leaf until they type "/nastatus" or "/nastatus on" to get their status back until they hit the final 2.55 quest or 168 hours played.

Hope this helps anyone who has had to answer the question "How do I leave?" from new adventurers!

It actually was only mentioned for mentors and NOT for novices. I was recently able to test it out. I read the patch notes especially regarding the mentor system very carefully whenever they're released and never once did they mention how a new adventurer would be able to leave of their own accord, only mentors. /nnetwork is a command that only mentors can use and the only thing addressed in the notes.

I absolutely hate this piece of advice that the OP gave. This advice is ONLY good for people who:

    A) Do not care that they will lose their "New Adventurer" (leaf) status. This is important for some people. It is a visual representation that you are new. For these players, not being a part of the chat channel and having their status are seperate matters entirely.

    B) ONCE TURNED OFF, IT CAN NOT BE TURNED BACK ON. Once you disable your status, you are out -for good-.

The better option, instead of doing what the OP listed:

    1) Turn off the chat as another member suggested, by filtering. It sucks that people still have access to you on the Novice Network's list, but that is only one way to do it.

    2) Stop goddamn blind inviting people to the Novice Network. Ask if they wanna be a part of it. Seriously, what kind of mentor just says, "Hurr hurr, you're in the network now" without so much as ASKING if someone wants to be in it?

That used to really bug me as well that people were just telling other people to turn off the leaf without pointing out that it was permanent (and some people actually do like the leaf icon...)

However, I think that's no longer the case as with the new update you can turn it back on again (/nastatus on) as long as still meet the requirements (less than 168 hours and not up to 2.55 on main story).

At least I assume you can keep toggling it off/on, it let me turn it back on with my alt yesterday happily enough.

But I agree they need a proper "leave network" button.

ah, did they make it so you can turn it back on? If so that's not so bad.

I think the OP is giving excellent advice.

Are we going to tell the leaf people how to play even if they want to leave the mentor channel? My friend made a new character a few weeks back and was really annoyed that a mentor invited him and he wasn't allowed to leave.

Sure you can "hide" the chat from appearing in your window(which is kind of a interesting suggestion to give to someone who just started the game... and probably has no clue how to do that yet), but what they heck is it wrong to just leave the channel if you feel it's wrong for you? It's not like you get a popup asking you if you want to join this channel. If you are a leaf status and get sent a invite by a mentor, you don't get asked if that is ok....you are simply put in the channel and people start talking and the chat starts scrolling. Wouldn't that be intimidating to a new player that maybe didn't want to join it?

I know there are great mentors out there that listen to people and help them but I also know some that just want a few lackeys under their thumb to force feed advice unsolicited....

But if a new person wanted a place to learn the game, I'd still point them to the mentor network, but it should be their choice and always their choice is what I'm saying. What if they were getting harassed? They aren't allowed to get away from someone?

The only reason someone pointed out that it could be bad advice, is because it used to disable the new adventurer permanently. Now it seems it isn't permanent so it can be good advice now.
