I'm not trying to start another debate on the pros and cons of the specialist system, this horse has already be beaten to hell and back in too many subjects here. I'm just curious whether or not I'll be able to craft those new shiny things as non-specialist. The pattern is clear for battle gear by now, not so much for gatherer/crafter since they had their "change of mind" at patch 3.1 as you say and we didn't get any new gear till then. For all we know, maybe they will let us keep some kind of self-sufficiency regarding our own gear. Which I would appreciate, but otherwise I'll just make do like I did this far.

It'd be weird if they weren't specialist recipes, and even weirder if someone was a 3 star weaver/leatherworker without their specialist crystal for that class. (I know there are people out there that meet that...but it's just kinda pointless since all 3 stars are specialist only.)

To me, it's pretty clear that SE will be applying the specialist requirement to every single recipe of the current highest difficulty (which is 3-star, until the addition of 4-star recipes in 3.4)
The only reason the previous crafter/gatherer gear wasn't tied to specialist, was because specialist recipes weren't added until 3.1.

People want to be hopeful....however if they were the Developers they would not start something like specialist recipes and so quickly abandon it without serious community rejection, (IT COST YOU MONEY TO CHANGE COMPANY DIRECTION.....its not a flippant thing to make patch 3.1 and 3.2 specialized then decide 3.3 no...we'll stop/pause)

Example: look how much red scripts and favor mat gathering has come. It has taken SE a while thru community feedback to get our current system; supposedly the community is "okay" with its state. So its likely further implementations will mirror what we have now. Likewise with specialization the best work around they MAY do is in much further patches they removed the specialization requirements the way they did with 3.1 stuff, so like by 3.4/ 3.5, maybe 3.3 stuff will become omni.

I somewhat expect 4 star recipes to come with 3.3, not 3.4, which is when someone else suggested. I expect the new crafting (and gathering) gear will be 3 star; I just don't expect it to fall under the "most difficult and thus specialist-only" heading.

I doubt 4 star recipes will come with patch 3.3. An item level jump was mentioned for gatherers and crafters, but since they are still at 2 star now (ilvl 170-180) they should get to 3 star with patch 3.3. No other ilevel jump was mentioned, thus no need for higher starred recipes.
I see patch 3.3 as a "gear up" patch for gatherers and crafters, so they can then craft 4 star recipes with patch 3.4.

I couldn't find the source, but I remember S-E saying the next beast tribe will involve crafting. I can only guess, that new beast tribe will provide the necessary materials for the new crafter and gatherer gear.

As for specialist only: I don't really care. It would suck a little bit, but hey, we have enough time to get the specialist crystals now, so we can switch when the time has come.

I'm still hoping the next set is 2 star craftable, or at least some of them. As I said before not a lot of people are 3 star crafters, and they're almost invisible in smaller servers. If they make it 3 star expect to pay an arm and a leg for a single left sided piece if you can't realistically craft them yet.

On the other hand expect crafting and gathering food prices to go through the roof, which is why I'm crafting up a whole bunch when the prices inevitably skyrocket.

unrealistic to hope that the new HIGHER ILV GEAR will be crafted at the same difficulty of the current gear since 3.05 ...... also if there are few 3 star crafters its not b/c they haven't spent enough time crafting, you can get a full red script vendor set and make 3 star recipes and it will not cost you an arm and a leg, just weekly limits.

Now my real concern is if it will be possible to skip a step while gearing up; for example I've not geared up my btn/min/fsh with current BIS gear, will the new addition allow me to skip this current set going straight into the new stuff....or will stats dictate I go thru current max gear load out before i can achieve the latest and greatest 3.3 has to offer?
