Well if you want to wait you can save the money that you'd spend blowing up materia and just buy the sets when they go up on the MB. Even at the most expensive estimates is still probably cheaper than how much you go through attempting to pentameld the current gear, let alone for multiple classes.

Except you don't have to overmeld anything but accessories to reach 3 star (and I'm hard-pressed to believe it'll be that much higher than 3 star.)

The amount of gil to be made selling these new sets on release day also far outweighs anything you would save by not melding.

As for the topic, I think they are hideous, guess I'm going back to my shirtless bacon cooking glamour.

Getting just 1 class LTW or WAV to much higher stats than 3* and leaving other classes at around 3* minimums might be viable tho. You will just make yourself 1-2 new pieces, overmeld them and use those to craft rest of the stuff.

Oyster Confit might be able to be used if these gears are higher than 3 star as well, making the melding needed even less. (Not having CP food will hurt though...)

Well they haven't given any indication of dropping specialization (and I hope they do NOT drop for the top tier crafts), although all crafters will share the gear it will take just about all classes to make it.

The current tier of high-level crating gear (i170/AF2) wasn't specialization-locked, so going by prior art, the next one shouldn't be either. We're never safe from a surprise though.

naww the current tier came waaaay before they introduced specialization; however since they have introduced specializations they haven't deviated from it! (They did patch relic mats from being specialization down to anybody can make; but extremely unlikely they'll drop the idea they've been banking on)

Specialization was present from the first day of 3.0, way back in June 2015. And the current tier was added after that with 3.05, at the end of July.

[3.0] The crafting specialist system has been added.
Though there wasn't much locked in the beginning, only a few recipes here and there. It changed with 3.1, when all the Sky Pirate gear was spec-locked. So yes, they did deviate and changed their mind after the first batch of 3.0/3.05 (especially combat-wise, with the i180 gear). Also it's not only the relic mats that changed with 3.2, all the 3.0/3.1 recipes lost their specialist lock.

Mr/mrs. technically correct! What he/sh said! But you knew what i meant; they not gonna drop their "new" patch to specialization without some strong community rejection. And if you check the forums generally the ppl that "hate" specialization are the omi-crafters that like to corner markets or rely on nobody to make all their stuff (which SE clearly stated they wanted to get away from....more interdependence)

Although I hated gathering gatherer's red scripts bc its so time consuming, and I hated how Gatherer's LEFT side were all red script gear ONLY, I think the idea is ingenious! I like crafters and gatherers having some interdependence, but gatherer's put in the most time to gear up and gather I'd hate to see them unable to upgrade b/c greedy crafters (...like myself) want to charge several millions for top tier, which of course force the gatherers to jack up their prices on their mats to one day afford the "best" gear. I would appreciate if they mirror the current crafter AF gear setup: red script vendor gear is cheaper to obtain has higher initial stats but crafted hq MELDED gives the top tier stats. But I hope as an incentive they actually give the gatherers something worth gathering; like a super potent red script mat.
